New player about to start out :-)

Hi, just introducing myself :-)

Star Wars Galaxies refuge here. I played SWG for almost all its life till the NGE hit and well you know the story. I had a fling with WoW and am currently playing COH which is good fun but isn't really complex enough to statisfy me on its own. I came across the game a few days ago and I heard a few good things so I thought I'd try it out.

I just made my character, one of those small dwarf things (excuse my ignorance) because they sound nice and friendly also with cool music lol. I chose to specialise in magic because im assuming it will probably lead to healing or some sort of support class (which I enjoy) I Chose Cho as my server but I wont be logging in till about 8:00 tonight. I enjoyed the character creation, simple but with quite a lot of customisation there with gnice characters :-)

So here I am looking forward to it, does anyone have any advice before I log in later?

Thanks, hope this game turns out to be what I hope it is.

**EDIT**

Wow I just noticed the bazaar forums, 11 threads for Cho compared to the 7,000 for Arispotle! Should I go with Cho? I dont mind a quieter server but I don't want it dead.

Welcome to Ryzom! *huggles*

Cho Bazaar is only so quiet because the server is about 20 days old, compared with Arispotle which is 2years+ :)

As a result there arn't too many crafters ready to open up shops or sell rare goods yet ;)

My suggestion is to make sure you talk to Chiang the Strong to get started. Pay close attention to everything he tells you. Talk to the various npc's in town to find missions and do them. You get some cash and nice items for your trouble and it helps to get you familiar with the game mechanics.

Don't be bashful about asking questions. The universal channel is for that purpose specifically. The community is very helpful and friendly.

Expect to die a lot. Whether you harvest or hunt, it's going to happen. I've found that death happens very quickly in this game. I think the penalty is just respawning with almost no health, stamina, etc. and a bit of exp debt. I am very new myself (even though I first heard about and tried the game in 2004), so I don't have most of the answers. :p

There will be more players of a similar level to you on Cho, so more teams available, also guilds are just starting out, so there wont be a guild full of ubers and just you as a token newbie :)

You will find that Ryzom has alot of similarities with pre-CU SWG, the more you use a skill, the more it developes in power, a very deep crafting system. A player generated economy, mobs only drop materials, no money or phat lewt weapons :)

I recommend you start as a warrior, you can train any skill without any restrictions, but if you start as a warrior, you will be tougher and instead of just being a Glass Cannon Mage, you'll be tough as ol' boots :)

On the starter Island, there are three sets of quests, make sure you do them for really good equipment. The Fighter and mage guys and a guy called chang the Strong (I think thats his name) give them out.

Players with experience in MMO's, especially those as deep as SWG (was) are always welcome in our guild, if you come to Cho, feel free to send me a /Tell Valdak and I will invite you, we can give each other a trial.

Our guild is very international in its membership, although mostly UK, there are also Polish, Spanish, Dutch, Scandanavian, Austrailian, German etc.

See you in Ryzom somewhere and good luck, you picked a great game :)

Cho is almost 3 weeks old, as Arispotle is a bit past two years, and people are busy leveling on Cho, instead of selling things :) .
I'd also recommend starting out as a fighter, doing twohand melee, it's slightly easier and safer than the casting business. You'll also have a truckload of HP when you try the mage route a bit later :) I myself prefer leveling all skills to about 30 on the starter island (if you've started paying yet), makes life easier on the mainland :)

Welcome to Ryzom, I hope you enjoy your stay!

Just logged in and running around trying to work things out.

Quick question. I have to press 'enter' to start chatting in the game, in every MMORPG I have played I have changed that key but I cant see it in the Key list to change. Is it possible to change this key?

The strafing and turning controls are a little strange as well. I dont like the turn keys I prefer to change them to strafe and run around that way. I usually have no problem swapping them around but in this game I dont seem to be able to strafe and use my right mouse button to turn at the same time it stops me and rotates the camera.

Is there any way to make the control system more like what SWG was? Lots seem to be missing from the key list. I like Esc to cancel attacks and clear enemies, but it doesn't seem to want to let me assign the Esc key to anything.

Hey we don't need our allies to become our enemies so shhh :D It's ok you're new and telar is right, the smaller homins are Tryker's who are masters of Wind technology and really just want to live in peace.

Anyway enough with the history lesson :P Welcome to Ryzom and the planet Atys :) :gives a welcoming hug:

Not sure about Esc key, but to cancel attacks, use ctrl + S. To clear enemies, use F6.

I'm from SWG myself. I was used to the controls there before coming here and had a bit of getting used to the ones used here. But give it a couple of weeks of using the controls here. After then, you'll forget the controls of that god-awful lobotomized game.
