Ring points exchangable for loot?

This was in an interview, yet I have heard nothing about this. Does anyone have an explaination?

Daniel Miller, Nevrax: The system that we have implemented is based on the concept of ‘active time’. The idea is that it doesn’t matter how active you’ve been or what you’ve been up to as long as we can determine that you have done something in any given time period, we can give you credit for it. As a result, as you play in a Ring adventure you accumulate points that can be traded in for ‘loot’. The loot is currently randomly generated and is principally made up of progression accelerators that can be used in the Ryzom mainland in order to double one’s progression.

Other ring news:
The features range in size and complexity from entire game systems such as an adaptation of the foraging system that we are working on integrating through to small additions to existing systems such as the addition of a ‘text broadcast’ chiseled into the event system to allow one to easily broadcast a chat message for the players whenever something important happens in the adventure. The list goes on and on.

The most interesting features in the short term lineup are probably the ones relating to best time and high score systems. These allow one to create ‘challenge’ scenarios with best times and high scores available on the Ryzom web site. These features will open up yet another way of playing with the Ring!"

What is this?

I´d say: Good news! :D
So they´re building new things to go into R², just like promised. :)
Got a Problem with that?
I don´t. :p

The first part is related to Ring rewards. Nevrax needs to, in part, motivate players to play on scenarios instead of progressing on the main land. The only thing we had heard till now was XP catalyzers, given e.g. as mob drops, in order to account for "lost time" to put in a way.... It seems that they are now trying to use and generalize the notion of "points" that you can trade later generically.

Given the past history of "look! great feature coming", vaporware until it goes live.
The list goes on and on.
Ah, good to know, as long as you don't hit list limit, all ok ! :D What about focusing on a reduced set and delivering, other than the usual PR propaganda, that goes half unimplemented? we bought it once.

Other than "everything seems to evolve around the ring, and nothing but the ring" (which is fine)... now this is getting, imho, a bit too much...

I like the ring idea (more as a player, but the "scenario list" is disppointlky empty everytime I check, of course I am giving designers time)... but I always hoped that the game would not be stalled this much (uhm yeah, the nest). This may be frowned upon, specially by the "oh I can't wait till ring goes live".. but, now that the basic set of features is there, what about other things?

Time? scores??? Ryzom is dropping the coherence and a well thought system with a nice interesting and original background into a conglomerate or unrelated minigames, pweeeeeze..

"Hey I managed to get the high quality helmet!"

"good, I'm 14th with a total score of 232445 after 2 continues in Karavan Invaders scenario"

If by "it" you are referring to the scoring system described by Daniel Miller in the first paragraph of your post, then the answer is... "yes and no".

The scoring system is already working and running in game since the Ring release. However the interface for you to be able to see it doesn't exist yet. We will add this in the next patch. Then, you would be able to consult the table of the best ranked scenarios, authors and Adventure Masters both in game and on the website.

I plan to publish a document about it next week so I won't give more details in this post.

I was reffering to getting ring points to use on loot. Is that in the game? If so how do we use it?

This is tied to the scoring system so it will come in the same time. It is not completely in the game and you can't make any use of this yet.

These points will be used both for rewarding you and for ranking scenarios, authors and AM. After a Ring session, you earn a certain amount of points that you could choose to trade with reward giver NPCs to obtain 'rewards', also called 'loot' (such as XP cats).

It's the "such as" that concerns me... I am worried that items which could be crafted by players would end up being added as "loot". But giving out cats is a great way to offer rewards. If XP can't be gained in a player created scenario, the cats will offer the ability to make up for it. :D
