Cool moments so far?

Hello..

Thought I'd start a new thread here to share a cool moment (one of many so far) I had in SoR last night that, to me, displayed to a great degree the depth and thought put into Saga of Ryzom...

And then it'd be cool for anyone else who cares to, to share theirs...

Last night, I decided to take on some quests to rack up some more money to help fund my crafting training. I took on one to bring back a few tufts of hair of at least Q11 from a creature.. believe it was a Bodoc or something like that.

So, I went out and hunted down some Bodocs. I killed one or two and collected the hair, finding it was only Q8 or 9. Not high enough. Well.. no problem, I have to go find their tougher relatives... So off I went..

I run on and along the way pick off a few Weeney Gingos or something like that (some of these creatures are so wierdly named it's taking me time to remember all of them :-) . A few strides later and I spot my target.. the Weanling Bodocs. However, no sooner do I see them than I notice two Puny Gingos... I know they're going to cause me trouble, so I start circling the herd of Bodocs to find a better position.. There doesn't seem to be one as both of the Gingos are on the move as well, moving in the same general direction as me. What to do.. what to do...

I know that if I go ahead and pull one of the Bodocs, I'm running the risk of a Gingo getting too close and aggro'ing me while I'm still fighting my intended prey. So.. I start waiting for a break...

Then I get it.. but not quite what I was expecting.. and this is where Ryzom's brilliance comes into play...

The Gingos each decide to attack a Bodoc.. so, now they're each occupied.. though I don't know for how long and still am not confident of my ability to safely grab the required number of Bodocs to get the hair tufts before the gingos finish off their prey and come after me... I'm focused as a mage so my HP and resistance to harm isn't much to write home about... and I"m not about to go back empty handed... or dead.

Then my break comes.. In a great example of the herding system Ryzom has, the remainder of the Bodoc group, apparently sensing danger, separate from the other two being attacked and move off, as a group, to a safe distance from the ensuing fight. Perfect! They are now away from the two Gingos... I can safely place myself so that I have the Bodocs between me and the Gingos, so even if they do finish off their current fights, chances are better that they'll go after another Bodoc than go straight through the herd and come for me... or at least that's my thinking.

I let fly an acid spell and the fun begins! Two bodocs later and I have my hair tufts! Funny thing is, the Gingos and Bodocs are *still* going at it.. and it seems to be a stand-off, as neither seems to have a clear advantage over the other.

In any case... that was a very unique situation that I have never been part of in any other MMORPG to date. I have never been able to use the mechanics of predator-and-prey and herd-mentality to my advantage to accomplish a task... I actually have some ideas in mind now of how I might use that dynamic to my advantage down the road... or at least plan to. We'll see just how clever they turn out to be in time :-)

So.. there ya go....

Anyone else care to share?

Was recovering from a fight earlier on next by a big herd of these bodocs ..

There were tons of them, covering the top of a hill above me.
I thought the place would be safe & no predators would notice me .

Then suddenly the whole herd broke loose & ran down the hill towards me !
I thought wtf they all gonna attack me or what , they're not supposed to ?

I stood up as dozens of bodocs brushed past.

Then facin me was a nasty goari, hunting for his breakfast ..
He decided that a Fyros might taste better than Bodocs cos he gave up his chase & went straight to me.

No think twice , i made use of my speed power & ran with the whole herd down the hill, threw myself in the lake.

The carnivore waited a bit then walked away.

I decided to wait a bit before gettin out of the water..

Thank you for those great stories. I have had many fun hunts myself though I can not remember any specfics at the moment. It is the great hunts that make this game so much fun to play for hours on end. All the herds keep moving and the predetors following them. Now it is winter which is the first I have seen in any mmorpg, I cann't wait for spring and see all the plants bloom. I love this game!

Walking through the Eye of Intuition camp and getting attacked by 6 of the guys. Then as I was laying there, dead, Icon worshippers came and wiped out the camp. If I wasn't dead I would've shook all their hands.

Down with the Eye of Intuition. Long live the Icon worshipers :)

A couple of friends and I went exploring in Tryker land and discovered a Corsair camp. Cool! Beautiful scenery with those huge roots in the sky. We buzzed around and then found a way into Bounty Beach and discovered the bounty was us. I watched the bigg'uns there interact until a torbek took me out in 2 hits.

Wish that hadn't happened, we were dead much too soon, but it didn't kill my hunger for exploration. Wanna see more!!!

A few days ago, I was exploring Tryker land and came upon the "Friends of Fury" camp. As soon as I saw them, the game crashed. The next day, the exact same thing happened to my friend in the same spot.

I logged an ingame bug as it might be something specific to that spot or the Friends of Fury camp that causes the crash.

After a couple of minutes, a GM responded and came to where we were to see if it caused a crash for him. He proceeded to swim across the lake to the camp but did not crash. He then swam back to us to thank us for reporting the crash, etc....

However, he also brought a little surprise with him. The entire Friends of Fury clan were following him and they proceeded to decimate our party. Fortunately, we weren't in any hurry and the death penalty isn't too bad so we ended up having a good laugh over it.

Not sure if that's a "cool moment" or not but it was pretty funny having a GM that's trying to help us cause the destruction of our group.
