If you experience lag in areas that there is a lot of players or NPC's then these little alterations can reduce that lag until you can improve the physical memory in your machine.

- Turning down all the graphic settings in game such as shadowing and vegetation this helps reduce lag in a lot of cases.

- Turning off the sound as having the sound on can cause a lag issue due to insufficient memory on your system in some cases.

- Switch off EAX and lower the number of tracks to resolve sound lag

This list will be added to over time to assist players who are at the lower specifications for the game get the best playing experience.

Closing any programs running in the background such as MSN, etc. can improve performance and increase the amount of free memory in your system.

Rebooting (if you haven't in a while) will also increase performance.

I had major problems with my mouse while crafting. Even with fine tuning speed and acceleration the mouse was sluggish. Then I activated hardware mode. And now I have the usual feel like in all my other applications. It doesnt look as nice and it doesnt change depending on what you target, but at least I don't get cramps in my hand anymore.

i have a serious performace issue :(

on newbie island everything was running fine, with all gfx settings above average. I have just come to mainland and its now impossible to walk around a city.. hdd constantly thrashing, cant even stand still and look around without pc having a fit.

I've turned all gfx to low but has made no real difference, so my question is i am better getting more ram or new gfx card?

Windows XP SP1
512MB DDR 400 1.5GB swap file
80GB 7200RPM hdd with 25GB free
Athlon XP1800+
ATI 9200SE 128MB gfx

cheers

If your hard drive is thrashing away, that would point to more RAM as starting point. Certainly another 512mb wouldn't go a miss in your system, so I'd try that before going to the expense of new graphics cards.

What exactly is EAX?

Another issue I've found when I get disconnected is that it almost always corresponds to a hacking attempt (netbios browsing) against my computer. Seems to take up the bandwidth and disconnect me, I'm on dial up and other that this I',ve had very little lag in newbe land... I'll see in MainLand.

Would be nice if Ryzom had a reconnect screen for issues like this, instead of having to quite all and restart game.

EAX is the creative labs software surround sound emulation API that has been used in games for a while now, since they released sound blaster live line, or maybe earlier.

like when there's a ragus or goari chasing after you, you'll get the "impression" that you hear it from behind you.. never worked for me tho, since I have a 2.1 speaker system.
