Hello from a new player

I completed the free trail download last night and just completed the character creation! Awila & Aliwa are ready to begin their adventure (although I may still tweak the toons appearance a little more).
A little background:
I have been searching for a replacement game for a little while. I have played SWG since beta and plan to keep 2 of my accounts active for a bit longer. Sadly SWG does not hold my attention the way it once did. Awila & Aliwa, the twins of Eclipse, have been my guide through many adventures. I am sure they will take me on a great adventure here in The Saga of Ryzom!
Awila has always been the crafting type. She tinkers a lot, helps others in need of supplies, and enjoys the art of crafting. Aliwa is the hunter/gatherer type. She is out and about collecting resources and adventuring through the wilds of the country side. Awila tends to be the homebody but enjoys the company of others and making long lasting friends. Aliwa is never home! She lives for the hunt and chase. She is a true and loyal group hunter that puts the group before her own needs. The two sisters have always made a great team! I know they will enjoy what awaits them on this journey.
I am hoping this game will fill the void I have been feeling for sometime. The community looks to be made of good people with good intentions. Which, to me, is the backbone of any great MMORPG. I look forward to meeting players ingame and hope to be received as part of the community.

Welcome to Atys
Maybe you can make another toon and call it: Awilaliwa
Just joking, no offense.
This is to say that:
- inter character trades are pretty hard in Ryzom, except if u have 2 PC or own your own Guild Hall
- most players tend to lvl all skills on same character as all the branches are opened to all.
- Levelling on high level takes long , leveling two chara takes even longer..
I am not saying at all this is not possible, just giving you something to think about
See you on Atys.

Thanks for the welcomes! And no offense taken. With 7 accounts in SWG and all the toons named similar, even I get confused and have to laugh!
Can you expand on your statement about the skills being opened to all? If I develop one toon the other toons created will have the same skill set?
After playing a few short hours last night I can see the learning curve is a little steep. I think this is mostly caused by the current trend in MMORPG's that hold the players hand each step of the way. I need to change my thinking in that I need to work for the skills and enjoy the challenge. This means I will not be "guided" through the game but create my own journey.
The harvesting reminds me of the first few weeks in SWG. No machines to do the work. All the harvesting was done by hand. I am a little timid to jump into combat. I died twice poking things I did not belong poking. Nothing like standing there watching my toon getting slaughtered and not knowing what to do. LOL

You can level _anything_,_anytime_ and each toon you make you'll have to start from scratch with.
And big welcomes to you both!.

Welcome to Atys
As they told you, you can do a little of this and a little of that. There's no limits to how many skills you can learn, but level 250 is max and you can't progress beyond that
Have fun in whatever you choose to do, you sure seem to have the right attitude

What they are saying is that this game is like CU and Pre-Cu SWG in that this game is free form with the skills, except you don't /can't give up your SP to go into another tree cause in this game if you wanna spend the time you can learn every single skill and stanza there is!!! And you also can edit your skills the way you like them! It took me a little bit of time to get accustomed to this game as I am a 34 month vet of SWG myself that left in August! Send a /tell ingame if ya need help
My name is in sig!! To answer the second part of your question about skill sets yes every toon has the same skill set, but before you get discouraged there are over 11,000 levels to gain. So you can play your toons the way you stated or play one as a "do all" toon to cover both of them
Edit Sorry I forgot to welcome you to Ryzom! So welcome!!!!

Ah that helps clear up that mystery
I am not one to have a single "do it all' toon. I like the RP value of playing multiple toons with different personalities. (No I do have have a multiple personality disorder IRL). LOL
I don't mind working each one through various skill sets. Each toon has a role to play and will focus in certain areas. The time it takes to develop the toon is the true adventure to me. I have never been one to rush or grind through a game.
I am hoping more is developed in the game to support player based housing and cities. That was one of the strongest features in SWG. Ryzom would do very well if villages can be created by the players. I am hoping to find a guild to join. I am not one to just join any guild and usually play solo or in small, friendly groups. But I can see the value of a strong guild in this game. It may actually be a must to truly appreciate all the game can offer in the cooperative play style.

Absolutely
Personally, though, I have found it really, really hard to not be Jamela. I imagine that by starting out two or more characters at once and trying to to keep them in step, it would be a great deal easier.
Welcome to Atys
