With free trade now possible between servers, does this mean that the original idea that Atys will evolve differently on each shard is now be added to the ever growing list of things that this games WAS going to be/have?

Marjo stated in another thread that some of the issues (one in the thread was cross server trading... aka smuggling, and another was harvest resource locations) will be addressed, hence the delay for the opening of Cho.

I am personally hoping that this means the smuggling will cease. If so, each shard should be able to evolve independantly.

The UK trades with Brazil. However, the UK and Brazil still manage to evolve differently.

I understand the concern with spoiling the virgin server Cho, but is trade between established and well-populated servers really a problem?

I have a related question. It seemed to me that some of the armor and weapon skins that I've seen on Aniro players in rings are different than Aristople ones.

Edit the next day: I think that I was mistaken. I was unaware of some high/color combos that are already present on Aristpotle.

Not quite the same thing... you would have to compare UK trading with a UK in an alternate universe.

Absolutely is. Each server should evolve and develop on its own. A variance of power balance between factions could be exploited to swing the political scene one way or the other using resources from another server.

If we're going to allow cross server trades... just merget all of the servers and get it over with.

If the models and textures for a different server's armor are on Arispotle hardware... maybe. If not, whatever model/texture associated with the armor will be displayed with the "default" Arispotle assets. There's a bit more to it than that... I guess it boils down to...

Maybe. :D

The models and textures are stored on the client side, I believe.

I do not believe allowing trades between established populations will spoil either population. It may change things, but not spoil them.

Therefore, the solution for Cho is to allow it to evolve without any inter-server trades for a few months and then re-open it. Hopefully that won't mean making the Ring unavailable on Cho or it would sort of defeat the purpose. I don't know what challenges the devs face in allowing inter-server exchanges for 3 servers but not for 1.

Think about it man, if I decided to send my 250 cats to Cho for an alt/friend and all of Melinoe pooled our resources... it could make a serious change to the server and in the hands of experienced SoR players would greatly effect the server. No new players would have any chance of matching the leveling (and eventual dominance) possible to someone being spoonfed resources. I have stayed totally out of this Cho speculation but I immediately saw this ability to trade to a virgin server to be exploitable and problematic. Aniro and Leanon would be less affected as they have these resources already, Cho would not.
