hello & a small Q...

Hello,

I am new to the game & like what I have seen so far. I understand the island is only for tutorial purposes & that it is a sandbox game, so no worries about it ;)

I have been a pen & paper RPer for many years and played many MMORPGs (EQII & WoW comes to mind) & and always found those restrictive & lacking any real roleplay. Would SoR be the kind of game I am looking for?

I hate when you are being pushed in a direction in a game instead of choosing your own way. Also, The crafting system seems to be the greatest I have seen so far.

See you all in game :)

Hi Icewyng,

I'm also a veteran tabletop RPGer and I rate Ryzom the highest of the currently available MMORPGs for roleplaying.

It lacks a lot of 'set dressing' for RP such as diverse clothing options, RP props and so on buuuut...

The community is very welcoming and 'tolerant' of RP, you won't be called a freak and you will probably get a lot of praise if you do it well. The lore is deep and diverse with room for personal interpretation and while you are hedged towards joining one of the factions it isn't completely essential and you can 'fake it' currently for game mechanic's sake if you feel the penalties of being aloof from the faction conflict are too much.

The community isn't perfect, but its as near-to-damn perfect as you can get in an open access online game.

Finally, Ryzom Ring, even in its current limited state is a powerful RP tool with a great many possibilities which can only get greater as time goes on!

Welcome to Atys, Icewyng. :)

I think that you have found what you are looking for. The roleplay is real and complex here. Neither side is black or white, and many homins carve their own distinctive paths.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

From what I have read so far, I thought so. RP seems to be more complex here than it will ever be in other MMORPGs.

I am thinking of subscribing but I am a bit hesitant. I understand it is very free-form and all, but many people say there is a "lack of content". Can anyone please tell me what it is about?

Nope, sorry. Different people have different ideas of what constitutes 'content' and different levels of ability to generate their own. Differs from person to person.

QFT, the game for me gave me a lot of content. It isn't quest driven like some others. This also means it isn't a linear approach as in other games as well. I have made it to my mission to get a few tittles and finding out as much as I can from amberstones (finding lore).

Welcome to Ryzom :)

There is plenty of content, what is not here is having it presented in an 'A B C' menu. The community is the greatest RP tool of Ryzom as I have discovered most of the lore through conversation with others...and it's nice to see how each interprets the history.
If in doubt just subscribe for a month...there is no binding contract to keep you here....just the community that is hard to walk away from :D

edit - I find the amberstones intriquing as they are found/earned, Then add their information to your personal encyclopedia. So you really feel as though you are involved in uncovering the history of Atys.
Then there is the faction choice, which then effects the travel points i can use, then there is the tribes that I can gain/lose favour with through attacking/assisting.
Of course there is the never ending task of modifying stanzas to improve/alter them for the current situation....Now I want to earn those skill points to improve my options.
Crafting is fun, I am advancing the range skill..that needs me to dig for the correct mats...the longer you play the more options are uncovered...

Thank you once again for your help

As Mugendo mentionned, there is really one way to find out... heh. I think I'll subscribe and see how it goes.

I think content will not be a problem... I guess many people think of content in the perspective of other MMOGs (such as WoW & EQ2) as this game seems to be so different it is like comparing apples to oranges :)
