What were they thinkin ?

Okay, the fix needed to stop neutrals from healing or otherwise participating in PvP events was obvious but why the reverse ? here's the situation:

I am quietly digging as a neutral enjoying the light show from the neighboring OP battle. The respawning invader on their way back to the battle, drags a horde of aggro towards me. I see him coming cown followed by 3 purples and a few other mobs, stand up and kill off two of the purples at which point the "warrior" drops the third purple on me which in focus gear, I've got no chance, but I do manage to kill the third purple as I am expiring.

In this case the "warrior" continued on his merry way but I would hope that the game mechanics would allow anyone with a sense of self respect or conscience to say "Oops , I'm sorry" and rez me. As it turned out, after a request in region, I was able to get a nice peep (several offered) from the attacking side to right the wrong but with this change, that's no longer possible.

What's the downside here to allowing either side to heal a neutral who has decided he wants no part of these conflicts and yet is forced to suffer the consequences of them ?

so a tagged person could not heal untagged? thats a little silly i guess as it only ever needed to work the other way round

Maybe the "Warrior" cant heal....

Still an "Ooops sry dude" wouldn't have gone astray :(

I suppose in the eye of "realism" one could make the argument that there is collateral damage in every war. ;)

It certainly adds an element of challenge to digging near a battleground.

Not to say this is what happened in the case of the original poster, but I've found that many times a neutral in the vicinity of an op battle is very often carefully watched to prevent a "sneak attack" or (before they fixed it) a neutral heal. A certain caution that borders on paranoia can often be seen in the precursor to OP battles :) Once the fight heats up some this paranoia evaporates.

Thats pretty sickening...

"your fault for not keeping an eye out for PvP related collateral you aren't involved in"?

Gee thanks. And really doesnt do the Pro-PvPers any good on the eyes of non-PvPers does it...

I personally don't see any difference between getting caught in an aggro train from an OP battle as any different than getting snagged by an aggro mob while digging no where near an OP.

It is the responsibility of the digger to watch what's around them to avoid getting slain. The digger chooses to dig where they will dig, while the OP battlers must battle at the OP.

It's not sickning in my opinion, it's just the way it is.

Except that an OP battle participant cant run back and res you, or spawn and res you. Since they dragged agro onto you it's _their_ fault for being careless, not _your_ fault for not watching out for kill crazed lunatics followed by a herd of kinchers. And its not like _they_ get DP for spawning.

I didn't get rezzed by the last gingo that chewed off my butt when I was digging. I was in a dangerous area, and took the risk for the mats.

It's one of the risks of digging near the outpost. As much as you would like to dig without worrying about what's going on with the OP, the combatants would like to carry on with their business without having to worry about diggers. A digger near an OP battle put themselves there, and should understand the risk.

I'm not trying to invalidate your frustration... but the reality of the matter is that while an OP battle is taking place, an OP may be a more dangerous place to dig.
