Spires query

I'm only recently returned and finding my feet here.

I really love being back, I have to say and I was looking forward to the new content, Ring and Spires.

I had a go a Ring last night, it reminded me of the carnage back the day, when Dyron had Kiten Invasions spawning upon death into a bunch of Kiten at the spawn point, that got old really fast, but I can see that its in its infancy and with the high calibre of RP'rs in Ryzom, I can see it developing really well :)

Which brings me to Spires.....

From the very beginning, OP's and Factions were supposed to be the core game of Ryzom, but I think that, because it took so long to implement, everybody became so friendly with the opposing factions, that it seemd inappropriate to kill each other and this engendered a certain mindset in Ryzom and I dont think people are as enamoured of PvP as Neverax would like to believe :) ,

I believe Ring is a very positive step and seems very tailored to the (IMO) core Ryzom inhabitant, but I get the feeling form what I have read on Spires that it is nearly the polar opposite of Ring, for "inclusive" gameplay.

If I understand correctly, a faction can dominate a whole map, rendering it inaccessible to the opposing faction, if this is the case, I find it very disheartning, people have striven so hard to gain access to some areas, to have them barred as a result of Spires seems to be a very callous act.

One of the things I admire most about Ryzom is the community, their generousity and kindness is unheard of in any other game I've played. My understanding of Spires, leads me to believe this spirit would be decimated.

So, my query is.... Do I understand the nature of Spires correctly and if so, what is the general consensus of opinion on it?

If you made it this far, you need to get out more :)

Cheers :)

Well, short version of my opinion on it.
I think it is a collossally bad idea and that feeling has only been compounded by what has happened with OPs.

spires will be next step in war... or did you think that karavan will abandon their plans of getting atys resources or kami will just let them do it ?
think spires as tp jamming stations ;-)

you was not around when they made fame revamp ?
neutrals cant directly tp to pr anymore. neutrals who had PR foraging as their main got ...

so, one, out of 3 sides is already suffering from this war... and they not even at war lol. kami/kara who is at war, can tp freely around atys like before.
also it makes no sence that void (kami land) has _the_ main hunting spots for kara ppl and kami is allowing this. we at war, remember ?

spires are nothing to be afraid of. just relax and dont think about them. they still in soon(tm) list.

Karu - neutral (around from dec.2004)

the big question is will people put the effort into spires?
just to stop people being able to teleport there?
i really can't see it myself.

imo a absolutley crazy pvp idea and one that will no doubt fall flat on its arse with the ryzom community.

It remains to be seen whether or not a faction can completely dominate a map; as a balancing factor the hit points for spires are shared out between all of those owned by each faction. Harvester, the spires will also bring bonuses not just restrict spawns and teleports. But restriction of teleport access will no doubt be the glowing EXIT sign for some, just as the Fame changes were last year. I say get to know your mektoub :) And Nevrax, allow us to forage mekkie food! The stableboys' cartel have had the monopoly for too long.

Because Spires will lead players to leave I think it is a colossally bad idea, too, but personally I think Spires will prove to be something I will learn to live with and ultimately find to be fun.

im worried about spires but ill have to wait till they are here...from what i know/see the spires get controled by factions true fighting? IF kara goes mad on it like the OPs the chance is fairly big kami will be rly dead since we wont have a place to go anymore. At the other side im sure the devs thought about that and have an id on that matter for us.

Oooh, I forgot to point out that, just because one faction manages to destroy an opponents spire, doesn't mean that they must build their own spire in the region. Just like crystal drills, erecting a spire will be the choice of the players, the community.

I'm not sure about the Spries, but I can tell you that the Ring is not all about inclusive gameplay. To use a term that Ryzom players have used for a long time "it's what you want it to be".

You can create scenarios that only allow players who are aligned with the Kami, Karavan, or any race. You can also limit it to what level they are. So it's very possible to create a scenario that only Kami aligned players will be able to access. In fact my first scenario might just be setup that way.

Well I was always kami, but when I came back I had to do Fame missions again, Im 66 or 68 kami fame now.

Regarding neutrals, well I suppose it could be argued that if you wont take part in the conflict, then you get a smaller slice of the cake or less goodies :)

I have no problem with the war thing, I'm just afraid that the more peaceful demographic in Ryzom will leave and that does Neverax and the player base, no favours at all.

I suppose a solution could be like in WoW, you have Horde and Alliance territories, you can enter each others territory, but your survival there is based on the benevelonce of the indignous faction.
Or maybe the current tagged/nontagged PvP could be implementd.

I just want people to stay, it was great coming back and seeing alot of old faces, but there are alot missing too :(

I know I left, but at least I came back...I can assure you all here that currently, there is no MMO out there with the atmosphere or community of Ryzom, it has its flaws, I admit, but its plusses far outweigh what is otherwise available.

I've just left Beta Testing Archlord, the New Kid on the Block and its so rubbish, compared to Ryzom, its graphics, skills, combat, atmosphere, PvP, community (christ there are some real tossers there >.<) are totally sub-Ryzom standards and this is going to be an alternative to Ryzom....LOL! :D

I'll definately wait and see what Spires brings, and try to adapt what I do, so I can play within its parameters, because at the end of the day, nothing but nothing, beats running around Atys with your friends :)
