Ruins of Silan quests guide [ Spoiler ]

Hints & Tips
- No quest requires you to be in a team in order to finish it no matter what the quest log says.

- No quest requires you to use a certain skill (melee dmg, magic dmg, root, etc.) to kill a mob. If you want you can use magic to kill mobs needed for a fighter quest and the other way around.

- You can use the "/tar <name>" or "/target <name>" command to find npcs, mobs or players. The command has a 250m range and for <name> you can only use one word. For example if you want to target the Dominant Cray you can use "/tar dominant" but you can't use "/tar dominant cray". Also you can use only the first letters from the name of your target, like "/tar domi" for example. And lastly the command doesn't always work.

- Some quest log counters don't update but that doesn't mean the quests are broken. For example for the "Team work" quest you will have to kill 10 Javings. The counter will stay at 10 untill you kill 10 Javings and only then the quest entry will change.

- If a quest requires you to find a material of quality X, any material of the same type and of the same or higher quality will do.

- All of the Chiang quests but the last one come in bulk (the new one automatically overwrites the old one and there is no reward given in between them).

- ROOT and ROT are two different spells.

[Added by Marjo] Spoiler below! Don't read any further if you don't want to be taken away the fun of discovering things by yourself.

First of all, I'd have sent you a personal message, but your PM seem to be turned off, so sorry for intruding.
Second, kudos for your exhaustive guide, with mixed feelings however. While I myself am no big friend of this kind of guides where you get everything (except lore) served on a silver platter, there are people who do. I hope it does not spoil too many ;)

Regarding the matter of the silver platter, so to speak, is this tiny-looking, yet grave misconception:

There is no gold on Atys, at least none known to the homins. While you may say "well whatsoever, money is money, who cares", it is one of the special and fundamental properties of Atys that there is no metal in homin hands. Think of the players who may read your guide, and not knowing any better, let loose on Atys, spreading talk about "gold".
The dappers homins use as currency consist of crystallised sap, which is why dappers are used up when one creates sap crystals for enchanting items. Dappers are not primarily used as currency, but only because they are convenient for this purpose.

I had no idea pm is turned off by default but it's on now, thanks for letting me know.

I know the game currency's lore but I simply don't like the word "dappers", i find it ugly and not fit for a game currency. Plus for the first times I read it I misread "diapers". I don't roleplay but I agree with you that there is no metal in homin hands on Atys so for the sake of roleplaying I will make a compromise *laughs* and I will replace "gold" with "money".

Thank you. I did expect mixed feelings and that is why my previous post contained a paragraph similar to the one below but I deleted it before submiting the post:

By reading this guide you already miss half of the fun of solving these quests by yourself, don't miss the other half by following this guide step by step. The guide is to be used only when you get stuck and you want to avoid frustration. You can also bug the other players with questions ingame since the community is very helpful. You don't get an answer? Try again later or try asking in universe chat.

The guide is in a primitive form, it contains locations mostly. There are no hints on how to fight certain mobs, how to fight certain npcs, how to craft q20 items, how to prospect and extract from your own sources, etc. That is for each player to find out.

Thanks sooo much for this, it has been a big help! I'm done with all except Red Blades 1 and 2, and Chiang's stuff (I came back from killing the bandit and showing the goo remover to everyone, but he wants me to gain some levels at that point...I'll log back in and check, perhaps that can be inserted.)

Edit: You have to be 25 in fight or magic to proceed.

Great guide. My son just started using it for his quests and it's definitely helped to reduce his frustration level.

I did want to add one comment though, since it's a fairly common complaint based in a misunderstanding. The /tar(get) command will only find a the target if it's previously registered in some way (ie: you got close enough for the text to pop up had you been looking at it). Once acquired in this way, the /tar command will continue to find it until it's "un-acquired" by passing out of range (~250m).

The best way to make use of it is to program it into a macro and just keep hitting it as you pass close (~50m) to mobs. You can navigate using your radar and just swing within range of any creatures without stopping to look at them. This is particularly useful when trying to find NPCs in a city. You can just run down the streets hitting the /tar macro without looking up. It's the in-game equivalent of running through town carrying a big sign with the person's name on it.

Thanks for your hard work on the guide.

Just a note on using the /target (/tar) command.

You can use multiple words, but have to surround them with quotes.

Example:
/tar "Weanling Yubo"

Creating a macro that says that in chat will allow you to repeat it without having to type it repeatedly. Even if you only need it for the one mission, it may take less time than wandering the hunting grounds for hours searching for that elusive Yubo.

The same idea will come in very handy later in your career in a variety of circumstances, for instance when hunting bosses or named mobs, or trying to avoid them while digging. (e.g. My /tar Zatchel macro while digging jewel mats in GoC)
