What's a Matis to do

I've read the lore and quite a bit of the threads on the forum, and pretty much get the sense that Matis=Karavan. Now I know it says that race is not a barrier to choosing a faction, but it seems that Matis are pretty heavily tilted to Karavan.

I find myself a little torn, though, because on a personal level (as a player, not a role-playing thing) I find myself much more comfortable with the Kami. Or at least, more interested in their philosophy. And the more I learn about Matis, well, let's just say I'm not too proud of some of the things we've done, heh.

However, since I'm just now getting to the point that I'm about to leave RoS for the mainland, I don't want to start all over with a new character, either Fyros or Zorai. Although, I think I may make a Zorai character someday. They look interesting.

But my question is, since from the guild list all the Matis guilds are Karavan aligned, and since I'll be starting out in Yrkanis, am I seriously creating problems for myself by considering going Kami? Would I be able to find a guild that could help me out in those lower levels, or will I be half a world away from them?

How many Matis players have gone Kami? And is it a tough row to hoe?

awwe... *sniff*

Well I'm sure you could talk a Kami guild in to trekking you to the Desert or Jungle without too much trouble...

Honestly, the only real difficulty you'll have is that you must do more missions to get your fame into a kami-positive state than you would to get kara fame. (you start with positive kara fame). There are kami and kara in all towns and zones and if you find a kami guild that you want to join, I'm sure they can help you find your way to any land you want to play in.

That having been said, [IC] don't fall for their ways, young homin. They are the corruptors. Stay true to your history or your blood. If you are ashamed of Matisian history, look into the other racial histories too before making a decision. Others have historical moments to be ashamed of too. [/IC]

Well according to my 2 dappars ;)

You'd be fine if you went Kami as a matis. From a roleplay point of view not everyone in the one society is going to follow the same view no matter what.

From a gameplay view it could impact you a little but shouldn't that much. Guild wise kami guilds are unlikely to be based in yrkanis (matis home) but they should still be able to help you there and should also be able to help you trek to a city more of their members operate out off if you want to team with them alot and if it takes a bit to get to organise a trek you'll be fine teaming with other matis around Yrk.

I am a Fyros though :)

Of course I could say that IC about the karavan too ;)

Actually, you have a point here. I haven't read the other race's histories. Might be a good idea before I go feeling all sorry for them and stuff.

Thanks for the offers of trekking me. I might be taking someone up on that. I guess I'll wait until I actually leave the island before I make a final decision. From what people are saying though, it sounds like if I do decide on Kami, I'll probably have to leave Yrkanis for the most part. I've only got one quest left to finish (I think). The one where I have to kill a Kirosta. Haven't found a team to help with that yet.

Part of my motivation is to help with the Kami numbers as well. From a certain other, extremely long thread, I gather that Kami could use another meatshield or two. I happily present myself as that meatshield. Besides, I've always had a certain sympathy for the underdog.

hehe - Well just take your time. Theres plenty of propaganda from both sides but whats more important is your enjoyment. My guild is like a family and most of my friends are Karavan which is all I really care about.

[IC] you could, but you'd be wrong and deluded. :p [/IC] (just teasing, I only added the IC bit for a lark; it wasn't the main point I was making but you knew that, of course.)

I suspect those numbers are starting to balance out more these days, but I don't want to start an entire fight about that. You should play the side you want to play based on your desires and how those desires blend with the lore. If that's Kami, then so be it. No hard feelings; we'll see each other on the battlefield one way or another. :)

Yep, no hurry in making the dicission and best to go with whichever you'd like to better. IC stuff tends to just go in circles when people from each side get started. Altought the Matis do strike me as the most 'empire' driven of the races. Some people would like that alot more then me though so go with what you like the sound off :)
