Ryzom Ring - First Run

Greetings all,

Well, I got to play with R2 beta last night a bit, and I have to say, I am pretty excited. I didn't spend as much time there as I would have liked, but I got home from work late, stuff to do around the house, etc etc.

Even it it's early stages, it seems like R2 is going to be one heck of a tool. And, it appears there are some UI enhancements on the way too... good deal. :)

I'd get into more detail, but I am going to be late for work... :D

Thanks for sharing your impressions :) but, -- I guess that, by openning in beta to all paying customers, NDA clauses may not apply -- I was a bit surprised by the latter quote. Could you elaborate more on the "it's early stages"? what do you mean by that? at this point, having been originally announced for q1 2006 [1] and delayed, I would have guessed it was relatively "feature complete" (for the planned release, not considering additional capabilities), that there are only minor rough corners to polish and that the ETA should be a few weeks at most.

thanks

From what was said at the meeting where it was demoed there's some things that won't be part of the primary release but that will be added fairly sharpish (we can hope).

The only thing I really regard as 'essential' that seems to be missing is conversation trees.

Indeed there is no NDA anymore; you can share your experience and impressions anywhere now. :)

Sorry for the brief post I made earlier... I realized halfway through it that I was running late for work. Should have waited til I got here to post. :D

The ring does indeed, with the exception of the conversation system, is pretty much complete from what I was able to see in the short time I played around with it last night. (stupid RL getting in the way again)

There does seem to be less buildings and "civilian clutter" than I was expecting, but I imagine more will be added. There is a decent selection of objects to place, but creating a matis town for example, would lack the buildings you would find in Davae.

I have to admit, I was very surprised by how much you can do with R2. You could create a very involved, in depth, epic scenarios with the system. Detailed right down to the physical attributes, clothing (including colors), weapons, names, and behaviors of every NPC you place.

You can set up triggers and timers for various events to happen, from NPC's beginning a patrol, to a horde of kitins attacking a village. It's a beautiful thing. :D

I would also like to point something out...

It's extremely easy to use.

I intentionally avoided reading the manual before logging into the Ring. I wanted to see how easy it really was, and figured the best way would be to see if I could figure it out without directions. I was able to throw together a basic scenario complete with triggered events, timed events, NPC's guarding prisoners that attack on sight, and if you don't defeat them in a timely manner, another group moves in to kill the prisoners.

I am going to read the manual today (while at work *snicker*) and play with the Ring tonight when I get home. The possibilities with this are amazing, and I am so excited about diving back into it, I can only imagine how long this day is going to be. ;)

I can't wait to see this thing go fully live. It's going to be a blast. :D

I was late for work this morning because I patched it overnight and couldn't resist ahveing a quick peek before shooting off to the RL grind..
I didnt do much but It was an amazingly intuative interface.

It took me about 2 mins to populate an area with tons of minibosses..

It was only when I was driving to work that i thought..

DAMMIT!! Why didnt i press play and watch them fight?!?!?!?!

ahh well ... that was my 2 min experience with ring before work.. and i am very very impressed so far..

now just to find time to play with it...

I hear some folks coughing. Who called out sick today or will be tomorrow?

The ring can do a lot of things. You will hit spots though where you have a mental block and can't figure if something is not possible, or if you just can;t think how to do it.

Just ask, I think many problems have multiple solutions currently.

Wow, wow, wow...I'm not at a lost for words "Wow" preety much describes my impression of the ring. The ring is awesome, and sooo easy to use. In less than 30 min I had a full scenario. But can't waste any more time chatting, going back in. I think I will try a PR landscape today. :D
