Well ive finally made it on the mainland, finished every quest on the island. I know the island was only quest heavy to get u started, but now that im on the mainland, what do i do now? Im only 34 melee *cant remeber the rest, they're between 20-30 though* so I cant really go out far yet...and im not sure exactly how to find a group that would want me. Like do i just shout in /r 34 melee or w/e lfg? or like..idk lol. Its also hard to solo, mobs are waaay much tougher than before =/
Any ideas, tips on what i should do?

Join a
guild. That will help you with socializing, teaming, and trekking, among other things.
Also, take a look at the "con system" link in my signature for information about determining the level of an animal. Might be helpful in choosing ideal targets.
Most importantly, however, I can tell you what not to do:
DO NOT GRIND. Placing yourself in a spot and killing things over and over is a certain method of making the game feel boring.

Set yourself some goals.
Learn the lore and lay of the land.
Go exploring.
Talk to people.
RP
Find yourself a place amongst the homin of Atys, make some friends, trek, all that goodness

Look out for live events.

Or don't join a guild for a long time untill you start to know who's who.
Don't accept treks too soon, go explore and rlearn to sneak. In Ryzom avoiding fight is almost as important as winning a fight.
Dig a little around some stables, talk to people, listen to all, make own opinion. find out where are the hunting areas. Try to get there alone.
Map the area for yourself, try to see what happens where. Most areas, even the worst ones have always a path you can go alone without aggro.
Learn to careplan offeryour services, you will learn a lot spending some hours careplanning with some vets. Offer your healing services if you meet a team hunting. You can never go wrong with healing, and again, learn people, see who are on your liking and who are not. Join every event, try to see what's the story. Find special places, some of them are completely void of aggro. Take screenies, invite a friend with you next time.
Make plans: today I want to get from capital city to this or that area.
Guilds are always nice, but you risk getting a bit too much help, too fast, losing a sort of fun that will never ever come back to you.
[Meh, Jyudas took the spoon from me, gah these fast mercs]

I agree with Faa do not join a guild till you know more people and know what is going on in atys. Do alot of research before joining a guild because its a big choice which can be good or bad.

But Jeru here made the right choice
Faa summed it up nicely. its not sumthing you will want tto rush into, Ryzom is different when i comes to guild/clans. It really is mroe like joining a close knit group of frinds or family. Guild hoppers are quite rare on atys (AFAIK anyways

) so either people do proper research or every guild on atys is 'perfect'

couldnt agree more, choosing a guild is more than just choosing a group of people in your timezone, explore them, ask to be put on trial with a few guilds, joining one doesnt align your soul with them. Typical story is the worst guild grabs all the new folk, offers them no challenge or reason to be on Atys, just another number to bolster thier ranks. There are certain guilds out there that treat homins like muck and fodder, trust me, been in them, dont join the first guild that offers a guild invite or even offer a friendly hand, cause it is fake. Take your time, hell take 2 months if you have to, many have and not regretted it.
My suggestion is join a newly born guild, a young one full of enthusiasm and willing, eager for adventure and death, rather than an old one where judgemental differences and bitterness for others may cloud your exsistance on atys. Look in the guilds section for guilds that are starting up over the last month or two.

That not exactly ture.
There are some guilds who want to have as many members as possible and sumtimes the new members get "left behind" some guilds have only a few member and everyone is treated with the highest respect. (and vica versa)
Take your time, but if sum1 does offer you a guild place, dont be suspicious. 90% of the population are very very nice people and would love to call you their "fellow member".

ok, agree Tyilin, sorry, not every outstretched hand is false, but there is the superficial element to "come let me be your best friend" sorta action that takes place in some parts of Atys, friendships are built over time, as is trust, understanding and teamship.
I`ve seen many guilds falsely recruit, and in the end guess what, the players leave because they were promised something they didnt recieve.. a good emersive guild experience. Even heard of a guild that have had to delete 300-400 inactive members, surely they must realise that they must offer something more than mass recruiting to be a respectable guild. Its fustrating to say the least.
But yeah agree 80-90% of guilds are top notch and play a role in atys.

I don't know if I'd call it falsely recruiting. Personaly I think they are probably run by people that like large guilds and they think the best way to become one is to recruit as many people as possible and even with a high leaving rate they hope enough will stick to make them a large guild. Although I prefer the small family like guilds so I might be a bit off
PS: To the orginal poster I don't think you need to join a guild straight off to have fun on the mainland. I've been given alot of help since I got to the mainland from some really nice people that aren't in my guild. (*wave to Sashtan and Gloife* and sorry to anyone else I've forgotten who should be included in that

)
