Yrkanis: City of beggars

Ok, I went to see some friends in Yrk the other day.

I kid you not, I was beating off the beggars with an electrically charged stick.

They seem to have a uniform (old style refugee gear, none of this newfangled ranger stuff) and some kind of telemarketing style script card too. Every conversation I had was literally a mirror of this, just a slight variation like saying "hi" instead of "hello".

Them: "hello"
Me: "hi there"
Them: "how are you?"
Me: "fine thanks, you?"
Them: "good tks, but I have no money, can u help me?"

Finally, mildly irritated I noticed that _all_ of these beggars are in guilds with OPs. Don't wanna name names here, but seriously guys, if you have stacks of crystals churned out on a daily rate, surely you can sort your newbies out with enough gear and dappers for their day to day living?

new players (who are in guilds) will ask strangers for items/dapper for a few reasons:

1) they are in a different time zone ( a fault of the people who are recruiting)
2) they have been given plenty, but want more. (fault of the newbie)
3) they dont understand properly how guild chat work and so dont want to ask for items/dapper (fault of both)
4) they have recieved dapper and spent it on mats
5) they have been given everything they need, but after leveling 15 levels in offensive magic their amps are no longer of use, and dont want to feel like they are conatsntly asking the same people over and over.

If they are in a guild. explain to them how to use /gu and explain that Q50 stuff is easy to come by and so if they want it, it wont be a problem...

THEN if they keep pestering you. you know that they are just greedy ;)

Yeah, your complaint should be aimed at the beggers themselves rather than any guild they might be in or whatever. Its likely they are recruits or something and one never knows a recruit all that well do they. Might just be greedy as Ty says.

In the 2+ years I've been playing (open beta 1 and pre-ordered game when released) I have run into only maybe 2 beggars. I'm in Yrkanis every day for several hours, and have not in recent memory seen or been approached by anyone who I'd describe as begging.

What I have seen often, is new players offering to buy equipment, or asking where it is sold, and crafters who are there grinding will stop and make them some reasonably good gear, at no charge.

I'm not sure who the new people are who were bothering you, Zahan, but I have yet to encounter them. Perhaps as they learn more about the game and the community that they have joined, they will be more likely to ask 'through the proper channels' and less likely to bother random strangers. Either that, or they'll get bored with the game and just leave.

I've run into a few but like, _most_, antisocial players they don't seem to majoratively stick around.

I think it's a habit they pick up in other games, panhandling is rampant there...

It also could be that they think you are Mabreka :P
