Hey all! Need advice on how to set character stats for mage/craft stance.

Hi all,

I am new to Ryzom but not new to online gaming. Right now I mostly play Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (have my own site where I have a thriving PC modding community), I also used to play DAOC, WoW, Miir, etc. I thought since Ryzom is free to try, I might as well give it a go as I have nothing to lose.

I have been browsing the boards while my client downloads, seems like a nice bunch of people here. BTW happy belated birthday Kibsword :) A little birdie told me it was your birthday yesterday, happy 21st!

Anyhow I need some advice on how to tinker with my initial character creation. You see in all the games I have played, I have always been an expert mager/crafter and I would like to be the same here (eventually), hence is there something I should do to make sure I get a good balance when I initially set up my character? Or is it just a case of moving the sliders to weigh more on the mage/craft skills??

All help and advice much appreciated.

Kindest regards,

-Ajay-

Your slider in chracater creation will do nothing but give you a little boost in one skill when you first start.
It has basically no effect on what you grow up to be, so to speak.

The craft one however is a nice start pack, gives you some extra materials to play around with which can be hard to get early on.

There's very little need to concern yourself in the beginning with what you want to do in the end. There are enough skill points in every skill tree to essentially learn *all* skills eventually. That's not always practical, it may take a long time, if at all, before you do learn everything. But what *is* practical, is the mindset that if you've missed something you find out you want, all it takes is a couple more levels and its yours.

General rule of thumb is fight and magic points are most abundant, harvest being slim for a while but eventually opens up, and craft points will always be valuable. Save harvest and craft for only harvest and craft skills, and try to pick a focus craft before you start dropping lots of points on various plans.

And, of course, Welcome to Ryzom!
Enjoy your stay, and feel free to send me a /tell in game any time with more questions :)

Thank you kindly Sehracii :)

I got off to a bad start, my client downloaded 97% and my internet reset! Ah well, I will try again later.

It sure is interesting hearing your thoughts, it gives me something to think about. Also which of the 4 homins would in your opinion be best suited for me?? My thoughts are Zorais but only because I like the idea of wearing a mask..lol and the fact that talks about wisdom and knowledge which is me to a tea

All races have same chances as all new homins start with exact same pack.

The only difference in races is the fame vs other races.
So pick the one you like as this will not change anything to how u lvl your chara.

As well, in this game you can lvl all branches: no classe so keeping mage/crafter is easy.
Tho to craft fast and at high lvls is better to collect mats urself: forage.
And to be efficient mage is good to have high HP: melee :)

Basically you can do everything and this allow you to switch from one thing to another and to avoid doing always same thing.
