i was wondering if anyone knows if r2 is going to be a expantion or a brand new game?

Both and neither of them at same time
It is a map and scenario editor: create your own story and a pre-made map.
Same as been Gamemaster of Dungeon and Dragon.
Other people will be able to access map you creat and go through the story, kill the mobs u placed and so on.
Will be little bit like instanced areas.

Its being called an expansion, however. And its called R2, for Ryzom Ring, not Ryzom 2.
