Dodge / Parry

Besides the numbers themselves, is there a difference between the two?

For example, if I had 250 dodge and 250 parry, would either be better than the other whilst meleeing against a level 250 mob? How about if I was casting?

I'm not sure I understand the two, and the difference (if any) other than the fact that parry can have higher mods than dodge, and that they are 'earned' via different skills.

Help would be appreciated!

They function identically-

Only time you wouldn't want to use the higher value is maybe in melee PvP if you happen to know your opponent had a weapon with large - adversary parry modifier but + adversary dodge.

But you're never going to know those values. So just use whatever value is higher :)

Note: You can't dodge or parry at all while casting a spell, but best to stay in dodge mode anyway in case you try to run away or just stand around, heh.

when they work, effect is same, you avoid the attack of opponant or partial avoid (reduced damage)

leg crits penalise dodge, hand crits lower skill so would penalise both (or have no effect). Accurate seems to work on parry aswell as dodge, so no difference there.

with amps +tool + ranged parry goes off hand to hand (usually pretty poor). so dodge or parry is purely situational and equipment based.

You can't parry ranged attacks.
Mobs can though.

You certainly can.

Neither dodge or parry make any sense of course, but both happen. We must be in the Matrix.

Dodge makes sense, parry doesn't.
Are you quite sure? Or is it just that NPC gunners never miss.

I dont know about missing but range always seems to give me the

"sehraci hits you and does no damage"

anyways dodge/parry.

Advantage of dodge if you get it for any tree i.e a master digger will have a 250 base dodge. This makes it easier to live with and is not affected no matter your weapon (unless it has a -dodge mod ofc)

Advantage of parry, it can be raise a hell of alot higher than dodge in pure stats I know a parry of around 330+ can be achieved (amazingly equipped with all sorts of special gear ofc) 300 is not uncommon though

250base + 34 parry kami/kara event sheild + 7 (not an expert on max parry for 1h so will pick an average) 1h weapon + 2 parry HA (6 pieces) = 303

I may be wrong but as far as I know, dodge and parry stats for 1h weapons are not implemented (0) but your point stands anyway, and with those raaaaare +7 parry aens (imho way overpowered) goes to approx 320, so I'm unsure about the 330+ figure, but I haven't played with parry much.

Harvest does not contribute to dodge mod. Your base dodge = your highest *combat* level. (Any fight or magic)

1H dodge/parry mods are not active, always zero. Please devs get on it!

"Hits but does no damage" is usually accompanied by "you parry so-and-sos attack"
Sys info says both :p

if 1h parry screwed then your correct 220ish

(its also a bug that need fixing then :D )

base = 250
aen +7 x 6 = 42
event sheild = 34
weapon = screwed 0
total = 326
laughing at anyone trying to hit you = priceless
