Hello and of course Help!

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say hello before I start asking questions. (obviously a newb)
First the good news...I think the game looks absolutely AWESOME!
Now for the bad news....I can't figure out how to do ANYTHING!
And by anything I mean, well, everything. Ya I've got the basics down like moving and attacking. How do I accept a "mission" from someone though. That's even one that I did look up in the .pdf manual and didn't find the answer. I'm also a forager and I have no clue what when or how i'm supposed to forage...HELP!
I would not have even come to the forums with these types of requests but everyone in the chat channel is more interested in debating whether it's ok to mention other games like...gasp....WOW....than to help the new people out. I really hope that isn't how the community in general acts but if I'm going to have to log off and post on the forums for every little question then the game will be a real pain in the butt instead of an enjoyable experience.
Perhaps someone could help me by telling me about a quick tutorial or something of the sort.
Thanks in advance...sorry about the rant but it's frustrating not knowing what to do in any way shape or form after only 5 minutes of playing!

If people are being unhelpful in Universe, call them on it. They obviously need a bit of a kick. If they still don't notice you, find someone who's holding a big bright shiny swirley stick (a.k.a. a guide/GM) and tell them about your problem. You can see which guides/GMs are available by typing
/who gm.
Anyway, welcome.
Most things will be explained to you via the quest-format tutorials. First, talk to Chiang the Strong by right clicking on him and selecting...um...whatever the first option in the menu is. You'd talk to any other NPC the same way. Then when you need to get a mission, right click on the NPC and select "Missions."

Thank you very much...i should have been more specific though since there's only like 4 things i know how to do and talking to an npc is one....but when i select "missions" from an npc's drop down menu then i get a box with "missions"....the first one says "the mission can only be taken once"...the others say "this mission can only be accomplished when yada yada yada". I'd love to learn how to accept these missions.
It only tells me these things if I right click on a particular mission.
Thanks a lot though.

If a mission's name is in red, green, or grey, don't try to take it. If it's white(ish), click it and click Accept. If there are none that are white in the list, check the NPC's menu and see if there's anything to say to them other than "who are you." If there isn't, press J to open your mission journal and see if you're supposed to be talking to someone else.

Well I thank you both but I must be an ignorant...or to annoyed to figure things out right now.
So i now know that none of the quests the karavan guy, the kami guy, and the chiang guy have available are ok for me. But I can't find anyone who does have quests i can accept. =-( Very Very Frustrating and still no help in the chat channel...but I'm going to try and slog it out again tomorrow.
I did figure out how to "extract" stuff though...and how to sell it, although i have no clue what to do with the money i made. LOL or what to do with ANYTHING other than the dagger and the extractor tool.
Well thanks for helping guys....i will recoment to any GM reading this (as if i'd be so lucky =-P) that you should definitely have a tutorial type quest that automatically pops up when you start the game or something. The game is not very intuitive, at least to me. Maybe will be more intuitive tomorrow after some rest.

Good night all and thank you for the help. I hope I haven't down played that which i have received because every little bit helps right now.

The Tutorial Quests are available from the NPCs who are in little kiosks in each race's section of campground. They're right next to the various Trainers that train the Skills they give missions for.
A Fyros woman gives Fight quests, a Zorai for Magic, Matis for craft, and Tryker for Foraging. They're all behind little desks, except the Zorai who's under an awning.

On RoS, you'll find that there are normally groups around the NPC's that give missions. As for learning the game, research beats Q & A... If you have researched and have specific questions you more likely to get a good answer than "I don't know how to do anything".
One of the challenges playing SoR is that it is not going to tell you where to go, part of your training is exploring and seeking things out. If your lucky there will be someone that will stop and do everything for you, most hope that you try as much as you can and then ask specific question pertaining to your problem.

Well, much better day today. Thank you all for helping out with my "struggle".
Hope to see you all sometime in-game My character name is Irii and i'm a Zorai.
Well game seems really cool for now so i'll just keep on gaming and hopefully won't need to ask any more "silly" questions on the forum. Especially since everyone in the chat channel seems much more helpful today! =)

I know I'm guilty of jumping on the other-games conversations - but some days it's not 10 minutes before requests for help are positively DROWNED by "why this MMO is good/bad/better/whatever". (By that I mean, the same conversation happens every 10 minutes.)
Some days are worse than others.
I apologize ahead of time if I was party to having your requests for help overlooked on RoS.
If there's any questions you have (especially about foraging!) and I'm about, don't hesitate to send me a /tell. I have never -not- answered such a request for help.
