Too bad it's not enforced more.

With the influx of new players have come hordes of badly-named characters...

Not an out and out RP type but i completly agree, some names we are seeing recently are completly inapropriate.

Yes I know I'm a grumpy old git.

I had a GM ask me why 'ILikePie' was a problem to me, when I reported that name. So I think some of them don't even know/honor the rules.

I'm not a hardcore RPer either, but names that are just a cheesy sentence bug me IMMENSELY. I'dve thought Ryzom would have better naming standards.

As long as they're not offensive I don't mind that much.

I've looked at the /who-list several times in Silan as well as mainland and I've found 95% have very apropriate fantasy-style names compared to other games. I'm sure the GMs already talk with new badly named players.

Here is a list of the NPCs, useful if you want to know the naming styles of the different races. http://ryzom.raum.com/?t=itemdb&s=npcs

I'm the least rp guy you can find but the names do get on my... nerves.

Some names do lower the quality of the game and the community by their existance I remember spending several hours downloading on a modem, thinking and investigating various sources before chosing my name I just with others would spend 30 seconds considering theirs and the affect it jas on peoples opinions of them. Not to be harsh but I haven't got 10 seconds to help or even talk to people with really stupid names.

/agree

it shows a lack of respect to have a stupid name. The few i have reported i've been told arent against the CoC as they arent offensive, they are all on my ignore list instead. but it destroys immersion and really winds me up to see lionel_luthor, ilikepie, mrbush and the like

Mmmm, maybe the support team should all be pointed to the link in Katriell's post, that seems quite unambigous to me, and all players have 'signed up' to it, even if they havn't read it :p

I have yet to find an "inapproipiate" (Like ive seen names like 'deathbow' etc, which isnt a name, but still fantasy stylie i guess :) Although there was a player called 'You' which confused me, becuase i felt like i was talking when i read the chat box!) name on the mainland. Does that mean that the "stupid" names are just comming from the people who are playing for free and probably have no intention of subing?

I think that the GM's do have a hard task trying to keep up with everything. i think as long as their names arnt abusive(I.E ipwnurazz or sumthing), and the names are on RoS - they are low priority. I would prefer to see a GM getting a homin unstuck from a wall than to spend the whole day on a starter isle chaning names..

Just my 2 dapper.

< owner of a multitude of silly names :o
Most of them don't last long, though - they're only for a bit of fun.

Personaly having a silly name would bother me more then anyone else and I'd end up creating a new character because of it but I don't know if I'd call having one a lack of respect. Maybe it really doesn't bother them so they don't understand that it will bother other people or they could just be in a hurry to try the game and the names they tried the first few times were taken so they tried something silly and go so caught up in it that they got that character further then they would like to go through again with a new character with a better name.
