Population - Kami vs. Karavan vs. Neutral

in reading the lore behind this game, I'm trying to determine where my character fits in.

My character is a Tryker of undetermined profession (as of now will likely be either Daggers or Pistols, and some defense magic, along with Weapon Crafting), but in reading the lore...the Trykers are naturally aligned with the Matis. I don't see how that can be stomached, since the Matis are arrogant jerks who used to enslave the Trykers. I dunno...something just doesn't seem right about fighting to free yourselves from Enslavers...and then allying with them. I feel like my Tryker character should absolutely hate everything that the Matis are.

Then I look over on the Kami side, and I see the Zorai, whom the Trykers think are some sort of demonic mind-taking monsters. I'm struggling to think of a good storyline reason to side with them, other than flat out hatred for the Matis(which I suppose is not really within the background of the game?).

so I suppose that I'll need a bit of help deciding here. so I'll ask a couple of non-story related questions and hopefully that would do it.

1) What benefit is there to staying Neutral?

2) Which side has the MOST Population, Kami or Karavan?

3) How bad is the population disparity (I'll almost always go for the underpopulated side), particularly in PVP?

now...I could always just re-roll as a Zorai and call it a day, but I am unsure how Melee and Ranged(Pistol) fighters fit into the Zorai culture, and I have no intention of playing Fyros or Matis.

thoughts?

The lore doesn't tell the whole story.

Most Tryker spend a period of teenage rebellion with The Corsairs, a kami-oriented tribe which seems to be a sort of semi-piratical national service for the Tryker federation. The TRyker (like the Fyros on the other side) are supposed to be the more moderate race of their faction and, historically, they have had alliances with the Fyros and their shift to Jena worship is relatively recent and not as reverent as the Matis worship.

Mechanically you're free to do as you choose, it just takes a little more work.

In game, Tryker overall have developed into, overall (with exceptions) being far more interested in Tryker solidarity and nationalism than in the faction war, so much. They're probably the most neutral of the races inthe game - as they've been played. Of course, new players may shift that and there's a few fanatical PvPers that like the play cheesy-evil but I'm talking generally.

Faction-wise the Karavan larger but this is in no small part down to Matis being the most popular race (damn elf-fetishists) and this is particularly felt in PVP.

Neutrals get a mix of TPs but lose access to the 250 teleports and prime root teleports, which is a bind for diggers, but apart from that you don't get any real disadvantage and, indeed, when Spires come in being neutral should balance out as Neutrals will be relatively unaffected.

IMO for Neutral to be 'fixed' as an alignment Neutral should be able to guild anyone of any alignment (at the moment its only other neutrals - it just seems odd that neutral are most restricted there) and should regain TP access to the 250 towns, as well as being to PvP tag up if they so choose (which they can't at the moment).

Trykers are fiercely individualistic - the last thing you want to be worrying about is fitting in with a general trend.

I don't believe that there is much of a population imbalance between Kami and Karavan. There is certainly an imbalance between the races but the tryker race is significantly divided over faction and this makes the difference when it comes to balance between the K factions. The neutrals are an often forgotten factor and can topple the balance either way.

The main sweet advantage for a neutral, as I see it, is that I can have positive Fame, potentially, with everyone. This means more access to Tasks and hence rites, and more tribes that will save my skin :)

"Arrogant jerks" you little... !

There is tensions between the two races and religion is basically what unites Matis and Tryker. King Yrkanis and late Governor Wyler both fought the oppression of Jinovitch together and became close friends over the years.

Trykers are a preactical people that Zorai is not and I don't think they communicate very well, while instead the mindset of Fyros is quite down to earth.

There are some indications that Tryker are a little sceptical to Karavan and there is probably more Neutrals in Lakelands than anywhere else. There are tribes are of both cults.

1) Not sure if there are any benefits.
2) Karavan, still
3) I'm guessing here: 60/40

How non-magic fits into Zorai society... I'd think a refugee tribe of any race, cut away from civilization for many ways have developed methods for hunting. It's not as painful hunting down your food wearing real armor.

Choose any race you want and develop your character the way you see fit, nothing is set in stone here.

Conscience. :D

Oh and most RP guilds are neutral. So if you're a roleplayer looking for a guild, you'd have more options in neutrality.

Not gonna advise you one way or another, freedom and individuality, are virtues most Trykers hold very dear, Jena has offered some aid and protection to the Tryker in the past but your right we dont tend to follow as fanatically as the Matis, if she wants to offer Aid and protection to the Lakes then Fine but until then look after ourselves and choose freinds where you will is my take on things.

Sounds like whichever path you choose you will fit right in in the Lakes, welcome to Atys my freind.

Absolutely no need to re-roll , youve got 5 slots , why not make a char for both Races ?

Ive got 8 chars (atleast one of each Race) ive lvld to some extent and frequently switch between them as and when I feel the need , my own preference is as yours though Zorai n Tryker being my favorites

I think that is a prejudice, spread out by Trykers who didnt have close personal contacts to Zorai... Of course a fun loving, lighthearted Tryker will look suspiciously on these tall blue fellas who are known to go out to some obscure place and meditate, but i think Trykers who have got to know Zorai people in deep heve found that we really can be nice fellas if you know how to take us :)

Although Zorai tend to be on the more spiritual side, many have been known to be powerful warriors too, our leader Grand Sage Mabreka Cho played a remarkable role in the Kitin swarms of 2512, as can be read in the Lore. So i dont see why a Zorai couldn't also be a fighter....

Also back in the lore I beleive at the time of the great swarming a group of fleeing Trykers had the gates closed on them by the Zorai, effectively feeding them to the Kitins.

Edit: I go with what Pet says though, I play a Tryker because thats what fits me, dont delete re roll a Zorai and see how it goes. Toons are like shoes they gotta feel comfy, and if you try to develop one strictly to the lore or a pre-conceived idea you may find yourself woblin round on high heels ;)
