Couple more newb questions

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice/suggestions!

I was working on Crafting and the trees started branching b/t Armor, Melee, and etc.., I was equal in both Armor and Melee crafting level wise but as I was turning in quests all the XP from the quest giver went into Armor? When I really wanted it to go towards Weapons. 1) Why did this happen? 2) Can I feasibly work on mutliple Crafting Lines?

3) Is there a website with a Skill Calculator that lets me see the entire Skill Tree so that I can map out what I want to do with my character?

4) I've got the quest for Red Blades #1 - "Kill bandits until you find the information you are looking for..." Can this be anymore vague? What actually needs to be done, since I've tried taking them on and get waxed each time.

5) I've died quite a number of times, is there a benefit to seeking a rezz or does it just save you from having to run back to that location again. Meaning do I save myself the death penalty at all, while I can usually recover the XP back quickly, it's getting more and more annoying as I die quite often.

6) Why do people make alts? Other than anonymity and just being someone new? Is there a reason to make an alt since it seems you can do everything with 1 char?

7) Do you carry multiple sets of armor depending on what activities you are performing? ie. Heavy Armor for Soloing GooLooters, Light armor for working on getting Magic Exp, Light/Medium for Harvesting/Foraging?

8) Is there a way to "Cycle" thru the available targets in front of you? I'm aware that you can press the Space bar, but this only seems to target the closest target directly in front of you and doesn't jump to the next one past it? So if there is a stationary plant and a creature right next to each other, I either have to fumble with dbl clicking on the creature or run past the plant and then press the space bar. Both seem clunky, b/c as soon as I dbl click on the creature I start running towards them to attack. When I'd rather pull the creature to me using a magic spell. ie. Javings dont seem to Bring-A-Friend if I hit them from range, you only aggro them if you are in close proximity.

I've asked in User and in Region for some of the questions and do not get any response. So I'm unsure if I'm not asking correctly, if my chat isn't being seen for some reason, or I just need to bathe and no one will respond?? Again thanks for the help.

Sorry, I don't know why that is that way, maybe a GM/Guide can answer that question.

Sure you can.

First you can learn every branch of every skill tree up to level 250. So no limitation. Second, try http://www.ballisticmystix.com/ for a complete skill tree

That is a mission, best solved with a team. Maybe you can try to fear a single bandit out of the groups of four, but I didn't tried that.

If you spawn you have to work off your death penalty, if you get rezzed you don't get a death penalty.

I use alts for different regions. Exploring the Ruins of Silan, help the recent members of my guild with a character more appropriate for their level, checking theories I worked out with my main character. And being anonymous if I got annoyed by some bad situation.

Generally yes. I carry up to three different suits, depending on the action I plan to do.

No, you can't cycle them. You target the nearest target in front of you. You may choose between different targets by turning slightly to the left or right.
You can pull creatures with a Taunt action, too.

Hmm, depends on the situation and day of time. If you asked your questions between 22:00 and 23:30 BST yesterday, many veterans were occupied in an bigger raid event.

hi, not much to add :)

1) if your craft tree has already branched then you'll get xp in the branch relating to the mission, ie craft some light boots will give armor xp

7) yeps, depending on what your doing you will carry more or less stuff around. when you come to the mainland you can buy packers to store all your stuff in so dont need to lug it around the whole time.

8) no need to double click, just do it once then you can launch a spell, taunt, etc

and the chatting, make sure you are talking in the right channel. to the left of where you type it will say which channel your text is going in, so universe for everyone & gameplay questions and region for the zone & res/location of the fine zun, etc :)

Thanks again for the help. Ive still got more questions and comments.

1) The crafting mission had me make 3 Magic Amps, which gave me melee weapon experience while I was crafting them, or so I thought. But as I turned in the items I'm positive the xp all went to Armor Crafting. Since the items in quest go into your hand as a weapon or magical supplement per se, I would think the XP would've gone to something other than armor. Oh well.

2) If it's feasible. What is the limiting factor here? Time? Materials? From previous MMOs, it has always been limited as to how much you could Master. EQ - only 1 trade over 200 and the rest capped at 200, SWG - Skill Points only allowed for up to 2.5 Masters in a crafting line while gimping yourself in combat, WoW only allowed 2 Tradeskills - whether they are 2 production skills or 1 gather/1 production, DaoC - 1 Tradeskill past 1k dont remember all the details now. But as you can guess, the crafter in me loves the idea of being able to craft everything, but "usually" this isn't possible/feasible in 1 lifetime or an immense amount of help. So my new question is does High Level Crafting Require a guild or outside assistance???

3) I tried that site a couple days ago and it wasn't working for me. I'll keep trying. Is there a listing of fansites and unofficial faqs and such for newbs like me to do more research from??

4) How far can u get in this game solo? I know the argument of why play an MMO if not to play with others. Most of my friends are still playing WoW. Those who aren't playing wow are bouncing around currently. But the idea of a lone wolf or loner is hardly a new concept. I've been successful in games doing both and want to know how far it's conceivably possible or do in-game mechanics make it tougher as you go for the loner?

5) Wow so if I had gotten a rezz I wouldn't have my current 5k xp death penalty??? While I dont know if this is a lot, it sure feels like a lot.

6) I totally understand being anonymous, though I dont resort to it since I've never had an issue with telling people to leave me along, and helping someone low level get started makes sense. What's with the different regions? Do you make alts so that you dont have to travel as far? With TPs and mounts, do they compare to other games travel systems where they are IMHO imposed time sinks? in WoW you have Mounted travel, boats, Zeppelins, and bird/bat travel. in EQ you had either long walks, timed zoning, Class specific travel druid/wizard. DaoC - horse/boat. All of these forms of travel seemed to be timed sinks. How restrictive is the travel here and is it a time sink as well?

7) In several MMOs, being one faction or another can be easier or harder to play? Does that exist here?

8) Is there a range limititation to using Taunt to pull?

Lol at anytime if I'm asking to much you can ask me to go to hell or just plain or shutup. I've read quite a number of posts in the General forums and would rather have a complete picture of how this game is and make an informed decision then go in blind thinking everything is perfect. Again, thanks for all the assistance.

ps. I'm holding back most of my PvP questions till after I get more of the mundane game mechanics work.

My turn to take a crack at these... :D

That mission was intended to be completed before you hit level 20, so all experience would go to the basic "crafting" skill. I'd guess that after the split armour crafting had the "highest priority" or "came up first" in the software controlling the addition of skill points.
camel66 wrote:2) If it's feasible. What is the limiting factor here? Time? Materials? From previous MMOs, it has always been limited as to how much you could Master. Limiting factor is time, materials, and patience. There is nothing in the game mechanics to stop you from leveling EVERY branch of the skill tree to 250. I believe some have "mastered" every brach of weapons crafting, and probably a few have mastered every branch of jewelry crafting, but I don't know of anyone who has yet mastered EVERY branch of crafting. Ballistic Mystixhas the entire skill tree mapped out if you can catch their site up and running (its running right now)

camel66 wrote:3) I tried that site a couple days ago and it wasn't working for me. I'll keep trying. Is there a listing of fansites and unofficial faqs and such for newbs like me to do more research from??

See above, its up and running at the moment.

I have solo'd almost all of my current levels on both my main character and the alt I created to occupy the Ruins of Silan. The game is VERY solo friendly, except in a few areas:

-- You cannot get XP for healing unless you are teamed with the person you are healing.
-- Afflictions can be used solo, but they are intended, and work much better, as part of a team strategy.
-- Some mobs will require a team effort to defeat no matter HOW high you get.
camel66 wrote:5) Wow so if I had gotten a rezz I wouldn't have my current 5k xp death penalty??? While I dont know if this is a lot, it sure feels like a lot.

Not only would you not have DP, but you would have rezzed at the very spot you went down, saving you the run back from the spawn point. Most folks are very willing to toss you a rez, just holler in region, and be sure to tell us WHERE you are (details please!). "outside ranger camp" is a big area...

Some days I just don't want people to know that I'm online, an anonymous alt that they don't associate with me allows me this "alone" time.

Travel in Ryzom begins with walking. While some view it as a time sink, its actually a way to experience the world in which we live. And its not a "click the action, go get lunch" kind of action. Do that, and you're sure to get killed by the first pack of Gingos that wanders by (or you wander into :) ). This is a world full of wonders and dangers, and dead-ends. Yo will need to guide your character on his/her travels, and when you find a teleporter, see if you are allowed to by a TP ticket. With those, you can 'port from anywhere back to that teleporter in an "instant" (that takes a minute or two to accomplish  ). Make sure you replace your ticket as soon as you arrive, because you destroy a ticket when you use it.

As you hit the boundaries of a zone (such as Fyros Lands) you'll need to find a portal (blue swirly disk thingy) to transport yourself to the next zone. There are only a couple in each zone, so you'll need to look for them (or cheat and use the Ballistic Mystics map :D ), and each one has a fixed destination. Thease also double as respawn points in most cases (all except the internal ones within the Lakelands) so when you "die" you have the option of respawning to any of the portals or respawn points your "know".
camel66 wrote:7) In several MMOs, being one faction or another can be easier or harder to play? Does that exist here?

Probably. Each has its ups and downs. There are two political/religious "factions" according to the lore, Karavan and Kami, but there is a third option (neutral) which is quite prevalent as well. Your faction (or neutrality) affects things like participation in PvP (neutrals cannot "tag up"), which teleporters you can buy (in general Kami can buy Kami, Karavan can buy Karavan, neutrals can buy some of each but not all and none in 250 zones), which temples you can approach, which guilds you can join, etc.

There's also citizenship, which may be viewed as a faction (but not a Faction) by some. This can affect the prices you receive at NPC Merchants, which guilds you can join (if a guild has aligned itself with a particular citizenship, only characters of that citizenship, or citizenship-neutral characters, can join that guild), and whether or not the City guards try to kill you (Fame plays a major part here as well).
camel66 wrote:8) Is there a range limititation to using Taunt to pull?

22 meters.

As Samardnaz already said, thou prolly not quite 100% correct, the XP from the missions least the crafting ones, were intened to be completed before lvl 20. As such when your crafting tree split, the Mission's XP went to the First Branch on your crafting list, Armors. This will be true for all the missions when you have a Split Tree, from what I have seen.

As to your other questions I think the others Have already awnsered them pretty well :D

Now I gotto add a question too:

Does Taunt skill only pull the target or also social mobs around it?
