Newbie Questions

Post by huntn »

I've just gotten to the point where I have level 2 attack skills. I see my action bar filling up with duplicate spells (all through they are of different strengths). I've read through the SOR manual and hunted around the interface, but I see no spell book. "Actions" pulls up a page of items but I don't see my spells there.

So here is the question: Are spells stored anywhere other than the action bar? And if I delete Acid spell 1 from the action bar because I now have Acid 2, is that spell (Acid 1) gone or can it be recalled? I don't know why I'd need to recall it, but ya never know. :)

Any info appreciated! Thanks.

BTW when I got to the Level 2 spells from the Magic trainer, he gave me this whole speech about creating my own spells. It's really too bad that this kind of info is not included in the manual. I spent 15 min writing it all down!

Yes, the spells and actions are stored. When you click on a box in the action skill tree, there is a menu that is shown on the side of all the actions available for the levels of the open skill range box. The ones that you have trained are lit up and you can click and drag these to your action bar. You can also create or re-create action by right clicking on an empty box of your action bar. You will want to build your own custom actions for different situations - can can do so by adding the trained options you have and then balancing them with credits that you have trained.

There are more than one way to get the spells to your shortcut bars.
  1. Open the Action Progression (B) window, browse your skill tree until you find the action you like to use and drag-n-drop it on the shortcut bar
  2. Right-click on an empty field on the shortcut bar and select create action
  3. Right-click an action on your shortcut bar, and select edit action
I hope this pushes you in the right direction.

Thanks guys! I've only played WoW and Planetside for MMOs and this is the first time I've run into custom spells. Is this a unique feature of SoR?

Jup it is.

And it´s a big Puls for me and many more of us.
It needs a bit of getting used to but you´ll learn eventually.

Here is a small Video Tutorial ;)

Enjoy.

Thanks much! :)

I've read some info about factions in forum chat, but snooping around I see not official faction info and how it impacts on game play. If I've missed it, could anyone point me at some links? I'm still on the island. I assume that this issue does not really come into play until you hit the mainland?

Speaking of the island, once you leave, can you come back?

Next, I just read the blurb about pack animals in tutorials- they can't transport and they can die when attacked. Does anyone really use these? I found in Elder Scrolls 4 (I'm still playing it), that having a mount is a so-so proposition. They have a habit of dieing on you. So I really don't take them adventuring with me.

Have there been any macro how-tos written?

Finally, is there a way to pull up server populations? I'm curious to see how many play.

FYI, when you are early on, (actually all the time) it is useful to have more than 1 variation of a spell/attack on the same Hands bar.

The best example is probably having a Long range 50m spell with max time credit on it to use as your first attack against a baddie. After that you would want to use a range credit and take the time credit away as you are likely being chewed on or smacked at that point.

For healing, I have at least 3 different HP heals on the same action bar, a rez spell, a multiparty bomb, a long range - reduced power, and a short range full power spell. Probably more, I just can't remmeber. I just click the button now.

I can see that the spell variations are an art in themselves. I think I understand what your saying about variations from the initial attack, with max range, to a close in attack with less range and more power? Is there any how-tos on this subject floating around?
Thanks!

When I click on a box in the action bar, a message appears saying create "new action". There is noting about re-creating an action. When I click in the box that appears in the window, a list of actions appears but none of them are my attacks such as Acid 1 or 2, Cold 1 or 2.

How do I see these attacks to restore to the action bar? Thanks!

No, but newly-created characters will of course start on the island.

Packers are usually either left in stables for stationary storage, or foragers/crafters take them to their favorite digging spots for movable storage. Mounts are good for getting faster to places that aren't near enough to any teleports.

No; no one knows the population(s). Nevrax doesn't release that info.
When I click in the box that appears in the window, a list of actions appears but none of them are my attacks such as Acid 1 or 2, Cold 1 or 2.
That first box lists "root types." For example, all elemental spells (such as Acid, Cold, and Rot) are of the Atysian Missile type. Healing spells are Celestial Missile. Powers and Auras are self actions like Self Heal and Melee Protection Aura (respectively). Extraction, Prospection, and Care Plan are for foraging (and you can probably guess which actions would be in the them).
