Looking for something special...

Hi. I am terribly sorry to post another of these "Looking for a Guild" threads, but I feel it necessary since I am a bit picky (but not in anyway an elitist or critic) about a guild.

First of all, I am mainly looking for a guild that gives my character a meaning to live. I love roleplaying, especially in small-scale plots and individual strivings, but bigger picture RP-fights, conspiracies and goals are more than welcome into my RP harbor too :)

Second, I love a guild that's helpful, both to old and new players. A guild that's nice and social, that meet often and enjoy each others company. A guild with members who loves the guild and the other members. I am very much a social player, and to me a good guild makes or breaks any MMO.

Third, I like PvP and PvE battles, but I want them to have a reason. The "They are not on our team, we must kill them!" PvP that most games have is to me rather appalling... I want a reason behind what I do, especially when it comes to violent actions.

I guess my dream guild would be high RP, moderate PvP and a high social/community feel. However, if you have a guild that doesn't RP much, or either PvP little or very much, and still feel that you could offer me a nice guild, you are more than welcome to write.

I am currently playing a Tryker in his level twenties, trying to decide what I actually like about the game. I am on the starting isle and I am still on a trial account but if I feel a reason to pay for the game and get to the real world (i.e. have a guild there waiting for me to take part in), I would gladly spend the money for a subscription.

IRL I live in Sweden (Gothenburg) which means I am on GMT+2, so a US guild probably isn't for me (but exceptions can be made, of course). I am turning 19 this year, if anybody is interested. I'm a quick learner, dedicated team player and love long walks in the moonli--- uh, yeah you get it. :)

So anybody who feels I would fit into their guild, please write in this thread, or even better, hit me up on msn (holmstrom.anders@gmail.com. - thats GMAIL, not hotmail) and we can talk there.

Looking forward hearing from somebody. :)

Edit: I forgot to mention, right now I am neutral in all aspects, but I would happily change stance or even make a new character to fit with a racial guild.

First off, welcome to Atys, hope you enjoy your stay.

Secondly, this isnt just another "looking for guild" topic, since you very clearly expressed you criteria, and you're not looking for just any guild.

Thirdly, as a HO of Melinoe, it's my job to do my sales pitch and recruit someone every now and then :)

Melinoe is a Karavan/Matis guild... that means, not just for Matis, but for all homins who choose to ally themselves with the Matis. We have members from every race and gender, since it's not a homin's origin, but their actions that define them.

We're a friendly bunch, we take care of eachother (new and old players alike) and eachother's needs, have fun hunting, sometimes we even die while hunting or digging cause we're paying too much attention to guild chat

As to our PvP/PvE... We try to do a guild hunt whenever possible, this can be once a week or every day, depending on who is online and what skill levels people are working. This can either be a regular grind hunt, to train our combat skills, or a boss hunt to rid Atys of the Goo-infected creatures (and to replenish our guild hall ;) ).

PvP occurs in 2 forms... some of us play open PvP (faction vs faction), while others only play PvP in outpost battles. The latter are plentiful usually, so your thirst for PvP with a meaning (to hold outposts) should be quenched if you get to attend those with us :) .

As for the time zones, those differ. We have EU people and US people, so most of the time someone will be on. I live in the same time zone as you, and I usually dont suffer from loneliness ;)

Word of warning, a few of us are as Melinoe started, true harvesters. So it might be that you ask "Anyone hunting?" and the responses range from "Nope, digging" to "Yeh, hunting for sources to dig" :D But as far as I can tell this would be our only flaw :)

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me or any other Melinoe, we'll be happy to answer them.

Greets,

Sounds interesting. I am currently reading through all of the lore, but when I get in game I will definately send you a tell. :)

To be honest I am not sure what I want to do - since I have only started playing I cannot fully understand what the fun part is with each and every skill tree - that is, I do not understand how it will be "grinding" a fighting skill later in game, and I do not understand how the crafting develops, etc... Uh, not quite sure why I am saying this, but I guess you could say I haven't decided on anything yet, and would like the guidance of some more experienced players before I do - another reason for a guild. :)

Short of observing others to find what you need, if your intention is not subscribing until you have found a guild then research beats offers in a forums I believe. Looks here for a list of guilds, this will give you a general idea what each guild represents.

You may also want to check here for a list of guild OP owners, certainly each of these guilds are willing to fight for an Outpost. Browse here to see those that RP on/through the forums, you'll get a feel for the various aspects of the players RP here.

Lastly I highly suggest you take some time to really check in the general forums, most folks have their IG name and guild in their sig. This will help you get involved in the IG world (although skewed by each posters own agenda/perscpective) and get a feel for the people behind the players. Whatever you decide, it's the people you spend time with in the game that will make the game for you. Succeeding or failing in whatever you do in game, will be a better experience based on the folks you do it with.

Race, faction and politics are all important aspects of your gameplay, but the folks you do it with will be the key to your enjoyment.

Hi there,

This will probably sound odd since we're not PvP nuts, but I think you might find a good home in The Samsara.

We roleplay, but we're not very strict about it, the main goal is to have fun. If you RP people will respond to it and it'd be good to have more and other RPers within the guild to spur us back to doing it more!

We run a bootcamp for new guild members, so right from the start you learn about our guild history and the people within it and have to pass RP tasks to join. Various members are always getting into little schemes.

We're mostly europeans, so we fit your hours I would think but we do have an increasing US contingent as well, so there's usually somebody on.

We're helpful, but not overbearing. Don't expect tons of the best stuff for nothing but do expect help, advice, chat and friendliness. We run a pub night every other week and have regular guild meetings and hunts.

We're not so hot on PvP but we do participate, as mercenaries, in many PvP battles. We had an outpost but we sold it (veyr in character) and now that we no longer care so much about the battles they're a lot more fun and fit our RP better. You can have your own individual morals with us, but you certainly have a reason - profit!

You'd need to be neutral to be with us, that's all, that does impact on your TP tickets and means you can't be PvP tagged all the time, that's all really.

Thanks for all the posts so far!

Grimjim: The thing I am looking for is more than the "Hello there master dwarf, how is the ale comming along today?" sort of roleplay that I often experience in guilds that rp loosely. I do not want the now-and-then campfire style roleplay, if it isn't part of a bigger thing. I want my roleplay to be part of a persistent world too, with a role that my character always has all the time. It's a bit hard to explain, but I hope you understand what I mean..

Now I do not in any way mean to imply that this is how The Samsara are, but trying to explain what sort of RP I like - and hope that this is something that a guild can offer to me.

The PvP is not such a big deal, I probably wont be good enough for it for quite some time anyway...

Edit: I think what I am trying to say is that I want the guild to have an RP story that drives them forward, more than "Let's stock up some gear in the guild hall so we can fight the kitins!" every now and then (don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with that at all, but I need something else too). A roleplay reason that is beyond game mechanics.

There is a risk that I come off like a big critic and whiney elitist, if that's the case I am sorry, I do not mean to offend or irritate anyone, I just know what I want and I am not afraid to say it ;)

We share a lot of the same philosphy with regard to playstyle and RP. I've been on the same journey you are starting to undertake for a few weeks now. Took me some time to learn what I have and I'll try to pass that along.

Check out this thread to view the responses to my questions and some rough conclusions:

http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23787

I build a character profile for the world I am to play in and start "writing the story" before I even look for a guild. Sometimes this results in the early death of a character as some of the assumptions I built in wouldn't function in the game society. That happened to me here, so I am on my second character with a lot more knowledge.

Look me up in game as Razyl or shoot me a PM or email through the board options.

The guild does have a background history, and as mercenaries we have a fairly strong overall theme to our attitudes about in-game events. My best suggestion would have to be check us out in game, along with the other more RP driven guilds. Its easier to talk in person than by forum post ;)

Send me a /tell if you would like, and I'll do my best to give more info.

Welcome to the Bark leelees. Take heed to DT's advice; the people you end up with do make or break the game for you.

Without furter delay...

The Red Ribbon Army is a Tryker Federal, faction-neutral guild. Our role on this persistant world is that of rag-tag bunch of hedonistic rogues, thieves and smugglers; things our kin is best at afterall. We may not be that law-abiding but have nonetheless a deep-rooted affinity and respect, even a sense of duty towards our homeland. Hence all recruits are encouraged to apply for Federal Citizenship.
There is no love nor trust for either the Kami or the Karavan from our side; both have been proven to have lied to Hominkind before, using us as puppets in their schemes. Now we observe and hope to one day find out the full extent of their lies.

Our roleplaying varies depending on the situation; it is not forced on anyone though we encourage to try. Guildchat is usually a mix of IC and OOC, depending on who is online and what the topic is about. Most other channels are considered to be IC, especially at events, both official and player ones.
Since we can not participate in Faction vs Faction, both due to RP background (prime reason) and gamemechanics, PvP is a rare occurance to us. All members are advised to stay out of conflicts unless they themselves are the target of an attack or we have a score to settle.

The majority of the guild consists of European players (that includes the odd couple of Swedes) but ingame presence seems to span a lot more than just European prime time. We are a tight-knit smaller guild and certainly not a powerhouse, that values courteous, mature, helpfull behaviour above all else.
All recruits go through a 'trial' period where they'll be instructed in the finer things (such as stanza editing, foraging, scouting the right opponents,...) and they are being monitored to see if they would fit in just right.

If there's more questions you would like to ask, feel free to '/tell Kyerna' or '/tell Xythus'.

Whatever you decide next is all up to you leelees. I wish you good luck in finding what you are looking for, so you may soon enjoy Atys to it's fullest.

Hi Leelees,

Most have been said already. For as far as I know, the Samsara and Red Ribbon Army are the only two guilds that have a rp background (that I am aware of, so I probably miss quite some more, please excuse me for that.)
Both of those guilds do much more then just 'how is your ale master dwarf'...

Most important, and I think most others said it in some other words, find a guild that suits you, be it more roleplay or less PvP. A guild can make or break this game for a new player, so choose well, and _please_ do not be impressed by new armors or fancy weapons...
