I have been playing ryzom for 2 days everything was running fine after turning all settings on low in the newbie island. Once i got to mainland though my computer freezes every 20 mins sometimes right when i log in. Sometimes if i wait like 7 mins after it freezes a thing pops up saying system failure and i just have to restart my comp everytime. I have 1g of ram with a pentium 4 2.8ghz ati radeon 9000 ddr x86/sse2.

The mainland has a lot more textures and models to load compared to the starter island. So things may be overwhelming your video card as the 9000 is not the newest or most capable. In the out of game configuration click on 'display advanced' and disable all of the options there. In the 'display' section force things to OpenGL. In the 'display details' section lower everything.
When you get in game make sure to disable shdows and lower the LoD clip distance for both Characters and Landscape to minimum.
Also make sure that all cooling fins and fans are clean and working well.
