1. Does this game have classes or is it a skill-tree type game?
2. How is the community?
3. Does SoR have a very large open world to explore?
4. Is there crafting, and if so how detailed is it?
5. Wee? Yes or no.

1) Skillbased, level the skill you use. Take a look at the skilltree here
http://ballisticmystix.com/skillTree.jsp
2) People here are terribly old

and friendly and helpful
3) I think it's huge, maybe a bit smaller than Azeroth but more concentrated. (We should really try to measure it up some time)
4) The game revolves around crafting, if crafting is your thing you'll be in paradise - it's an artform. Good crafters are legends here.
5) Yes

1. Totally skill based and open. You can level any skill you like. Be anything you want. Even a fighter/mage/digger/crafter.
2. The community is very friendly and very helpful. Got a question or need help? Just ask in the universe or region chat channels. Someone will answer. Not a huge community like some games but I reckon that makes us better in some ways.
3. Yes the world is quite big and there's plenty to explore. These two sites will give you an idea:
http://ryzom.raum.com/?t=itemdb&s=maps&menu=
http://ballisticmystix.com/map.jsp
4. There are lots of different crafting skill trees - 3 types of armour, jewellry, melee weapons, ranged weapons, ammunition.
5. Oh yes.

People have answered these already
but as a new player to the game i can definitely say the community is by far and away the best on any mmorpg you will find, the world is a pleasure to explore, crafting is good the opening quests are a bit of a bugbear of mine tho because it leads you to craft things and spend valuable crafting points on things you might not want (skills in crafting are dear compared to most others)
nice laid back game, i would recommend if you have a nerdy mates like me put them on Teamspeak and party up with them to get teh full glory of the game roped in a few people who we all agree this game is legendary and more people should be playing
there are some amazing aspects to the skill tree the skills in general called stanzas which make the game stand leagues apart from some of the others being able to customize that spell you like is fanatastic, some trees are harder than others.
with the devs seeming to be making constant improvements and patches and actually listening to the players (which is a first i have seen after beta testing a few others), all in all my verdict is that i might be playign this for a while, questing may seem a bit light after the initial island, but i cant really stand some quests so its nice to just bimble around. dont expect thrills and spills its what you make it and getting to a higher level opens up more aspects of the game that the lower levels can really look forward to
my waffling opinion after 1 months play

Wow, I was very surprised when I read the replies to my post. In most other MMORPG forums my threads get swarmed by trolls.
On a more related note I would like to ask a couple more questions if that is alright
What is a good server for a new player to start on (if there are even seperate servers)?
Do you think it is best to concentrate on one skill tree, or be more of a hybrid class (fighter-healer type)?
oh and...would you like some waffles?

Servers are language based, so you should pick based on which language you prefer to speak.

This is entirely a personal choice. Do what you enjoy doing and what you can find people need at the moment.
oh and...would you like some waffles?
Sure, thanks.

Waffles go here!!! *points to his wheeee bit big belly*
Well, just do whatever you want. No restrictiions within the system to be what you want to be. You can be if you like, a gun wielding, sword slashing Mage with priestlike healing.
Or a great digger, with a knack for Dagger fighting. Or whatever...
Just di it and ejoy your stay.

Well... They don't seem to be making me sick... Ya know, this actually might be a good way to build a tolerance to the human's filthy food! Okay, GIR! I will try!
