Disconnects due to 2 people playing ryzom on the same LAN....?

Post by kvaran »

I have the dreaded disconnect problem. Its very annoying, but I found the Linksys network fix and it fixed the problem seemingly perfectly.

The only problem is, my brother recently got into the game as well. We are both in the same house on the same local area network, using a cable internet connection. When one of us plays, its fine.

But I was playing ryzom this evening. My brother had just gotten back from a trip and we wanted to play the game together. Mind you during his away I had never gotten any disconnects. As soon as he logged in, I started to get disconnects for no apparent reason.

I really want more than one person in my house to play it simultaneously, the only killer is that I get recurring disconnects fluxiating from 5 minutes to half an hour.

1 person playing=normal
2 people=disconnects!

Some info: He is on a laptop, with a wireless connection.
I am on a desktop, with a cable.
We use a hybrid Linksys router that does wireless as well as cable network.
Standard Windows XP, no SP2.
Firmware Version is:1.42.7, Apr 03 2002

Does anyone have any idea why this may be? :(

I play 2 machines online at the same time and have had no network problems - that said, I don't use a Linksys or wireless. If you haven't already you could try setting one (or preferably both) of the machines up with wired connections, but I can imagine thats a bit of a bummer just to play, or could even be untenable due to various reasons :o

Was talking to kvaran on this.
LinkSys has some issues with doing NAT on UDP protocol when dealing with two or more machines accessing a remote server on the same ports. The only workable solution is to DMZ one of the machines and have port triggering enabled for the other.

Holy ****.

There is no excuse for Linksys being that flakey.

I've used a couple of other routers from various companies (Netopiaand Belkin) and never had a problem like this. And yes, both my wife and I play at the same time, from behind the same router.

Agree. I have used D-Link, Netgear, and Netscreen (Juniper) routers with Ryzom and other games, generally very easy to set up. We have three PCs online with the same games at times.

'Nother reason not to use a linksys! :)

Does this also hold true for mixing two different games on the same router? I sometimes boot up DAOC and craft while I am playing SoR. I get computer freezes on the SoR machine. Is that the same problem?

If I read Zerlin's description of the Linksys NAT / UDP problem correctly, you should not encounter it playing one system DaoC and one Ryzom. I make this statement because one requirement of this problem is that both systems behind the Linksys router need to be attempting to access the same server on the same port. It seems to me that this condition would fail in the case of two different games.
