So..where does "Ryzom" come from...

Just a few more new players questions here. I don't see where the "Ryzom" name comes from in the Lore. Anyone know?

Also, why does the game start and you see "1 Atys". What's the "1". Going to have more planets or something later?

Thanks.

These are just thoughts of mine... but I always figured that Ryzom was sort of, like, the Rhizomes of plants. (Most grasses, for example, propagate by means of rhizomes.) And so it's much more a title and Atys is meant to be a chapter in a broader story:

I'm all for more plants though ;)

Behind these mysteries the key to the destiny of Atys resides, and the fate of hominkind lies. While rebuilding their civilizations, homins will soon have to look deeper into these questions to grasp the true Nature of Atys. For time is already running short. The destiny of Atys is about to change hands. Someone, or something already has their sights on the Green Planet, looking for the Ryzom.

Yes, there is still talk from the Devs that someday there may be other planets to explore. I sure hope so ;)

Where's Neun when you need him with the original quote? :p

Edit: Nvm, found it...
For many centuries I have voyaged through the quiescent corridors of Ryzom. I bore witness to the Green Rising of Atys, and the birth of hominkind. I witnessed their striving for survival in a merciless world of killing plants and swarming beasts. Worse, entrenched in their brutish ignorance they gave themselves to bloodshed in their vying for power with their own kin. Thus weakened by interracial warfare and bound to their territories in their self-imposed segregation, they fell victim to a terrible swarming of kitin.

Even the great Atysian forces of the Kami and the Karavan put together were powerless against the kitin onslaughts in that calamitous year. Entire populations perished. When the dreadful news came to my ears, I did not delay in giving all the assistance I could to save the last survivors, many of whom had dispersed and fled into the wilderness.

Three generations have since passed for healing wounds, rebuilding lives, for introspection and rekindling the spirit of hominkind. The time has now come for the wise and the brave to take up the reins of ambition, to blaze the trail to a new order, to span the rifts between continents and forge the destinies of their civilizations.

This is my one hope, for in unity will we best be armed to repel the tide of advancing evil. Certainly, I already hear the ominous rumblings of the Enemy that, alas, shall one day rock the very bowels of the green planet.

But I have faith yet in this, the New Beginning of Mankind...

Elias Tryton, Year 2525
Three things to notice:
1) It says "New beginning of Mankind", not "Hominkind" :D
2) It refers to an unnamed "Enemy" still approaching - presumably the one mentioned in the quote Jelathnia used.
3) All/most of the lore relating to Tryton has been removed from the mainsite - only some of us still remember the "old lore" *feels old*

As usual, you folks are very helpful!!

I'm not sure if we are supposed to talk about this or not, and I'm sure all the vets know about it... but that Jessica Mulligan said something about Atys being a terra-forming experiment gone wrong. Makes you wonder though.. did the Karavan (mankind) do it and we (hominkind) appeared and now they don't know what to do about us.

I vaguely remember the days of the closed beta and I want to say that that was the general impression I had recieved from the lore at the time, that Atys was some sort of very special place, perhaps an experiment and that the homins had devloped out of that.

Though, my memory is really hazy so maybe I'm just remembering wrong!

edit: But it basically means two things that that old lore was removed, that [1]They felt they jumped the gun and removed it so not ot give too much away, or [2]They felt they were taking the game in a different direction from where they originally planned at launch.

I remember reading an interview way back, I believe with David, and he said that the Ryzom was an item, and it wasn't "ingame yet", but he wouldn't say more than that. And that the Saga of Ryzom, incorporated a series of planets (7 or 8, sorry, memory is getting fuzzy on this fact). So there you go for now.

But, with news from Jessica on her last TV interview, the dev's have a lot of work if they are planning 99 levels of Prime Roots and 7+ planets with an explorable space.
