New player, need some guidance

Hey all! I'm trying Ryzom out and I will probably buy the game too. If anyone can answer some questions I would be greatful! First, are there any social faux paus I should avoid? What are they? Is there a way to pull up a map of where I am? Is there a jump ability? Does it matter what race I start out as? Like are some better fighters than others?
Thank you very much!

i've not been here long but here goes.

People don't tend to like you using "leet" speak in chat channels.

Press M for a map, you can zoom in and out and put markers on it, right click on it for menu.

No jump at all.. only had one reason to need it so far ;)

any race can be any class. no limiting factors afaik. i've made a few "wrong" choices for some of my characters but just get more levels to get more skill points.

hope this helps, but maybe a more experienced player can give you more advice

Well lugnutt summs it up pretty good actually :)

Leet is frowned upon. So don´t you come n00b1ng around :D

M -> Map

Jumping only with high lvl Spell animations. And it´s not needed so far.
(it would be fun, but it´s realy not needed)

Only thing that differs from race to race is a kind of natural inherited resistance to their home-environment-spellclass. Menaing, Matis have a slightly better resitance against Poison, Tryker against Shockwave, Fyros against Fire and Zorai against Electricity. (If I´m not totaly mistaken here, I´m not that into Gamemechanics :D )
From a Lore and RP point of view Zorai are said to be the best magicians, Fyros the best Melee-fighters. But there are no Game mechanics to boost that.

CU and enjoy your stay

Social faux pas.... well...

.. it seems that in Ryzom, at least (and probably other MMOs) 'WoW' is a 4-letter word, so it's best not to utter it. ;)

Questions part deux: Is there a way to know what a resource is before you start to gather it? How do I know what level I am? Do my skills ever deteriorate? How do I get more crafting patterns, all I got right now are boots?

You need to prospect your own sources - then you can learn to prospect only for specific materials or to see what is in the sources you have uncovered.

Look at your Action Progression window to see what level you have achieved in each skill branch.

Skills do not deteriorate.

All crafters begin with light armour boots. Make 3 levels and you will have 30 skill points to spend to learn another crafting plan - but be warned, choose how to spend Crafting SP very carefully. You cannot nerf yourself but you can make life difficult. I recommend you decide to focus on one type of craft to begin with, and be very picky about learning plans because they are expensive; armour, melee weapons, range weapons, or jewellery.

Thank you Jamela. I think armor is the way I will go because I want my character to look unique. Can all races wear all the different races armor?

Yes. I guess that's the beauty of resin based armour rather than metal - one size fits all :)
Hmmm, though now I think of it, some homins certainly tried to stretch things to their limits.
(wonders if TNE will ever do a newbie isle fatboy race to celebrate their birthday :D , I might have to awaken Jerry)
