OOC Chatter..

Hi folks,

I'm giving the free trial a try but I have a question. Is all this OOC chatter going in the same way when you're out of the starter area?

Maybe this is something that is just happening now because of the free trial but I can't stand it!

Nothing but comparisons about World of WarCraft and other annoyances.

erhm... well people aren't completely "RP only" on the mainland by any means... generally you can assume that most things said in region are "ooc" for purposes of roleplay, but it is generally frowned upon to talk extensively about other games, rl politics/religion (the ig type is far more entertaining), what you had for breakfast etc etc

So, while the game is very "rp-friendly", people are usually not too strict about ooc talk in public chat channels unless except as above :)

The 'universe' chat is conastnt thourghout Atys. Starter isle or otherwise, but that can be turned off eaily. Generally people who talk in region tend to be looking for teams or talking about ryzom related topics. Ive spent a bit of time on the starter ise with an alt. and i agree. all of the talk can be a bit annoying.

If you want to RP constantly i would suggest trying to find a 'RP' friendly guild. There are plenty of guilds who love to RP, and some that dont RP. but no one would kick you out if u only spoke in RP. but be prepared to face a fair bit of OOC chat on the mainland.

Having said that: if you RP with sum1 they generally tend to RP back. just personaly experience, and i know a few who rarely ever stray from 'IC' chat.

If you make the trip to the mainland im sure you will be pleasntly suprised on how much quieter it is. :)

there is very little/no football/other computer games/swearing/leet etc in region channels on the mainland.

Long may that last, it's not what they are for.

Ok, thanks for the information. I'm just glad you can turn some of the channels off. I'm not asking for 100% always IC speech, however, I play these games for a short escape from the real world for the most part!

99% of the population does not RP in open chat. [edit]The small segment of the population that RPKs [/edit]don't even bother to come up with a simple reason for random killing. [edit]Random killing is defined, in the context of this post, as the killing ability due to the game mechanic(flagging or PvP zone) vs. an RP rationale for attacking. Please don't argue against me regarding consent. All I am saying is that the RPKs in this game appear to be gankers as they don't RP.[/edit]

Edited for clarification. TY oldmess for bringing that to my attention.

I'm assuming you don't mean to imply that 99% of the population engages in random killing, but it would be easy to interpret your statement that way. The number of people that engage in that type of pvp is very small and since you must be pvp-tagged or in an open-pvp zone, it's not even that "random".

Are you talking about region/universe chat here, or the "around" chat?

I am (newly joined) in a heavy RP guild. Within the guild, guild chat, team chat, and 'around' are designated as "IC by default." We must denote OOC with special characters (curly braces etc) in those modes. However, even in a heavy RP guild, we recongize both universal and regional chat as being OOC by default. So if you are talking about region/universe, yes, those are OOC. If they bug you, turn them off, or switch to the 'around' tab.

For 'around', on newbie island there is not much RPing. But on the mainland there seems to be more of it. But again if you really are into RPing you will want to join an RP-oriented guild. Just realize that this is going to require you to fit into the guild more than in other cases (an OOC guild can overlook the fact that you are not a Kamist, whereas a Kamist-focused RP guild probably will not overlook that).

My sense is that compared to most other MMORPGs I have tried (COH, GW, SWG, etc), this one has more RP in it, by FAR, than most.

I’m thinking that the main point of this thread was more about are the channels constantly flooded with non game related chatter.

As a new player, i have to say yes, it is.

Last night even over the universe chat (the one with the warning message) there were some valid questions that moved instantly off my window because of multiple debates over non game topics (SWG, WoW, your mom and uberness of XXX moves and shows).

I’m wondering if these channels are moderated at all. They were borderline useless last night.
