Greetings! Some trading questions

Post by allisa »

Hi there,

I started playing on the Starter Island yesterday and I'm enjoying it very much. One area I haven't figured out though is the buying/selling process at merchants, particularly selling to other players.

From what I can see, if I have an item, I can sell it to the npc merchant for price X or I can choose to see it to a player. If I choose to sell it to a player, I also seem to get price X from the npc merchant and extra if another player was to buy it. If this is the case, there doesn't seem to be a reason to sell directly to the npc merchant at all.

So what happens if my item does not sell? Does the merchant keep it or do I get it back through the mail? What happens if someone bought it? Do I get dappers through the mail? I have put up a few basic items for sale but they don't expire for another 6 days.

If it doesn't sell, the merchant keeps it and you don't get extra dappers. If someone buys it, they receive it and you get extra dappers.

Two reasons to sell to NPC:
- There is a limit on the number of items the merchant can hold to sell for you.
- It'd be nice if people didn't sell crappy armor on to other players. If it isn't your best or at least decent, sell to NPC. With weapons, better = higher DMG and Speed. With armor, higher Protection Factor percentage and Max vs. numbers. With a lot of q5 Boots of Lightness with 7% protection factor, the merchant is basically spammed.

After 7 days, it expires and disappears. You keep the dappers the merchant already gave you.

You are limited to 250 items sitting with the merchants at any given time. That count is based on stacks when it comes to raw mats, so if you give him 10 claws today and 10 tomorrow, it's 2 items. But if you give him 10 today, buy them back tomorrow and give him 20, it's 1 item. A single stack is maxed at 999 items.

Many thanks for your speedy replies. Looking at the merchants on the starter island, I can see the For Sale list crammed full of junk so I see your point. Thank goodness for filters! Now that I understand, I'll remove my stuff. I guess everyone else is going through the same discovery process too. :)

Players that really want to make their bones as crafters should be careful what they put up for sale to players. Right clicking on an item in the sales listing gives lots of info on that item, including who made it.

Everything put up for sale should be considered advertising and name branding.

Yup, that's why I try only to put decent stuff (for what I can make, at level 40 jewel making, hehe) on the vendor. If I get a crappy result, I often just drop it (if I am running out of pack room), or I just sell to the NPC. Also, for resources, if I don't have at least 10 of something I just sell to the NPC. Most crafters are not looking for "1" of just about anything (except in very rare cases)... especially not on newbie island where most people doing crafting are just trying to get XP.
