Hey everyone. It's nice to meet you. I've been tempted to play this game for a long time now but never have.......until now.

R2 looks amazing with the editing tool and other things and the community seems top notch. Hopefully I can have as much fun on the newbie island as other people are having.

I'm downloading the client now and will definitely be giving this a try tomorrow night. Hope to see you in game.

yea agreed. I really haven't seen anything that i'd call bad in this game.

Could some vets tell me about problems we may eventually encounter? Why isn't this game as popular as it should be? Where're the flaws?

Some flaws in this game are pretty intense and can be a real PITA.

LIke, for example, if you aren't careful, you're liable to develop boils on your butt from sitting at your computer for way too many hours at a time.

Another aspect of this game can actually have a negative impact on your health, such as the countless times you'll be too busy playing to finish up such things as... the dishes, laundry or take out the trash.

And this one time... some grease on the stove had started a fire in my house... but I had just then found, finally, a source of extreme q250 mat I had been searching for, forever ....

How is that different from other mmorpgs? they're all addictive...

I would agree that Ryzom is quite a step above others. Maybe it's learning curve throws people off, but hey, the mechanics of a game is what makes it...

The only reason I see that Ryzom isn't as popular as it should be is that WoW was launched around the same time as Ryzom, and Nevrax had nowhere near the advertising power as Blizzard.

From what I can see, the "overcompetition" of WoW has lost Nevrax a lot of money and employees. Meanwhile, I saw quite a bit of the technical and content concepts that where still being assembled for the game back in 2000, when I was looking into NeL to power a project of my own, and I knew right off the bat that this game wasn't meant for this decade, but for the next.

I'm sure the investors and financial backers don't like to hear this, but this game, in it's life cycle, is merely beginning, imo :)

The only ones I can think of is these:

The mainland is not quest-based. You will not encounter the fancy missions like there are in Silan, except for twelve special ones called Rites. Missions only reward you with dappers and tribe/race/faction fame, with the exception of the rites, which give you a special action/stanza/stat boost and a piece of lore for your Encyclopedia.

At the moment the mainland seems a bit empty because most older players are either in high level regions or playing their Silan alts, while most newer players are still in Silan. When more new players come over and the novelty of the island wears off for the older players, I suspect we'll see an increase in the mainland population.

Getting a team can be difficult unless you are in a good guild. Asking in region generally does not produce results.
Why isn't this game as popular as it should be?
Many people just "don't get it." It's a complex game, and rather niche. Also, the only advertising (in the USA, at least) is gaming articles and word-of-mouth.
