I just got the trail, and whenever I try to start the game, I get a message that says:
"Can't create a window display (1024x768 32 bits)"
Can anyone help me fix this?

8) onboard video chips such as Intel, SiS, lower end Mobility Radeons, etc will not usually work with Ryzom.

And an Intel chipset is exactly what I have.
Shoot, I had to wait for the client to download overnight (and then some), and it won't even work with my system.
I can't get a new graphics card (can't afford it). Is there ANYTHING else at all that I can do?

I know you said that you can't afford it, but there's really no way you can play a modern 3D PC game without a DirectX 9 card (no reason to get an older card at this point unless you have one laying around to use.)
The bad news: The *only* solution is to get a video card that at least meets the minimum system requirements listed here:
http://www.ryzom.com/newcomer/system-requirements
The good news: You can pick up a card for very, very cheap that will at least run the game. It may not run it well - for that you'd need to spend a little more, but you will at least be able to play. Check out newegg.com (just one of many online resellers you could use.) I did a quick search and found tons of cards that will function fine for under $30. You won't be running with much eye candy, but you'll be up and running at least
You didn't say what sort of system you had, but if you're not sure what will work in your system post here and someone will surely give you some pointers.
Hope that helps some!

start menu->run
type dxdiag and it should have your dx version and gfx card details there

thanks, i did that and it came up with this:
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c ( 4.09.0000.0904 )
so that's the right version, is there anyway i have it disabled or running on a lower version?

Gah! it says they are both enabled. ( that is DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled and Direct3D Acceleration: Enabled and AGP Texture Acceleration: Not Available ) next to the DirectDraw and Direct3D it gives me an option to disable, then it gives me an option to 'Test DirectDraw' 'Test Direct3D' so... should i test em'?

nope, tell us what it says in the device section of the display tab, above the directDraw/3d bit
