Wich melee weapon?

I would like to train some melee fighting skills and wondered about wich weapons (mace, axe, sword, staff, spear ...) I should go for.
Can anyone tell me the advantage/disadvantage of the different weapon classes and maybe also make some recommandations?

2 handed weapons are easier to level solo/in small groups as they do significantly more damage.
1 handed weapons are better for tanking as you can use a shield to boost a parry (unless your dodge is way higher).
1 handed weapon + dagger (or 2 daggers) are mostly a curiousity at this point, they dont have a major advantage over either of the other two methods.
Blunt weapons do the most base damage, but are the slowest. They can use the "slow" stanza, which is handy for tanking.
Slashing weapons do the next most damage, and are mid-speed. They use the bleed stanza, which is great for doing even more damage to high HP mobs over long fights (works out better than blunt in that circumstance IMHO).
Peircing do the least damage, but are the fastest, and get the armour peircing stanza, which is wonderful for mobs that resist physical damage, meaning they are potentially the most damaging for things that resist physical damage a lot.
Thats a broad outline, but basically the balance is pretty good for most things IMHO if you use the weapon for appropriate things. Daggers/Close Combat and 2 weapon fighting styles sadly need a bit of work IMHO.

Do actions cost the same per usage independant of the weapon equipped?
Example:
I got a fast low-damage weapon (like spear) doing as much damage per second as my slow high-damage weapon (like mace). Will they also use up as much stamina per time? Or rather as much stamina per hit and thuse the faster weapon more stamina per time?

.
axes are slashing yet they fit the characteristics of blunt in this case, and swords(slashing) hav a large parry on them
work it out for ur self, max damage/max speed axe has i think 27hpm and ~576 damage
Whereas a gd pike has i think 33 hpm but somewhere around the 400damage(both ql 250)
Ps sorry for inaccuracy in figures i have bn out of game for a fair wee while
And you will use the same amount of stam per action regardless of which weapon u yield, so the slower harder hitting weapons are easier on the stam

for now, go with 2h axe (more damage, but slower) or 2h sword (less damage but faster)
to get idea if that sword on merchant is good, damage formula for 2h sword is q*2+52
hit/minute, higher the better
about axe/mace/sword/pike, there is patch note:
http://www.ryzom.com/development/patch- ... tch-00083/
patch83 wrote:The 2 handed melee weapons (sword, axe, pike and mace) now have differentiated characteristics, and all of them have a value. Here, the 2 handed sword is the reference for damages and speed comparison:
- Axe & mace: 20% more damage, 10% slower;
- Pike: 20% less damage, 10% faster, 20 in reach (3 others weapons have 10) that allows to lower received damages by 10%;
- Sword: has a parry bonus that allows to lower received damages by 10% (comparing to axe and mace).
Depending on the used materials, the 4 weapons:
- Reduce one's dodge from -20 to 0;
- Increase target's dodge from +20 to 0;
- Reduce target's parry from 0 to +20.
So, the effectiveness of these weapons will depend on the mobs' defence mode: those who parry will be easier to kill, and those who dodge will be harder.

Go with bare knuckles and laugh at the funny javings
Killing barefisted also increases the quality of the quarter (or so it said in the first manual, lol, I bet someone at Nevrax is still chuckling at that one)

I wonder how many people we would need punching Madakoo to overcome its regen
Not Master Hand-to-handers, we don't even have as many of those as it would take. Just average players. Allow some afflictors casting blind so everyone could actually hit and healers of course. Could be fun

Could be an exercise in futility!
Assuming you could even get that many homins close enough to hit the big bug, could take DAYS to knock it down! Sounds like a "tag team" event to me...
