Race Question

As I try and download a copy of the game that isn't corrupt I was wondering if a kind soul could tell me if there are any reasons to pick certain races or not pick a certain race.

Also, what are the advantages of the different races?

Thanks so much!

The races are pretty balanced, the only actual differences are:

1. Start location _after_ your Ruins of Silan introduction. You go to your race's capitol city after completing the newbie island.

2. Resistances/protections: there are slight racial modifiers to your defence against magic, but a good jeweler will craft jewels that compensate for this, so everyone ends up pretty similar in the end ;)

3. Your starting fame (how friendly you are) with the 2 religions, the 4 civilisations and the dozens of tribes.

Pretty much any of these can be overcome with a little work, so its not considered an issue. Play something you like the look of, or if you are starting with some friends all play the same race so you dont need to trek between lands to meet up after newbie island :)

It is easier obviously to join the Kami if you are Zorai/Fyros or the Karavan if you are Tryker/Matis, so this may influence your decision if you want to join a specific religion. Personally I prefer being neutral ;)

Zorai - blue and a tad smelly
Tryker - very small and a tad smelly
Fyros - a tad smelly

Well, to be perfectly honest with you, only Matis got any real advantage to speak of. And that is, obviously, their look, style and feel; as compared with the rest is just outstanding.

the races differ in attitude more than anything else

trykers attract people who like to run around shouting at the top of their voices, and breaking things.
fyros might not enjoy breaking things, but they havent worked out how to avoid it.
Zoraï would prefer to sit in cafes and talk about how things go together, after they have come apart.
Matis just go around feeling superior, and demonstrating how best to dissasemble things.

To be a little nitpicking, races do have different base resists to racial offensive elemental spells. What could in fact be minor differences in a overall balanced system turns out to be slightly unbalanced when considering the relative difficulty of crafting jewel sets with resistances that overcome these differences.
