Some generalized questions for answering.

Ok, now that I'm not a complete newbie to this game, it's high time I moved up to these forums for questions. Not like the questions are overall that great, but..

1) About what level should I leave the Ruins of Silan? I have officially completed every single quest I know of, Chiang's, the 4 trainers, and the Kami quests (I can't, for the life of me, find a Karavan mission giver. Guess it has to do with most of my race (the Matis. Guess what, I like Kamis more anyway. RP all the way... Kind of. Not for me yet) being aligned with the Karavan, and the fact that I got TWO?! points fame for the Kami (at least I only need 48 instead of 50 for Kamis now) missions. Ah well.) Yep, I have that good ol' shiny Ranger armour which really really rocks for my tastes. Generally, I want to level up most of my skills to at least 25-30 (Defensive magic to 25, and I can't do anything with Ranged. Yet.). Overall, here's my levels:

Melee: 31/35(40 maybe)
Range: 21/21
Defense magic: 24/25
Offense Magic: 33/35
Armour Craft: 29/30 (but I don't have any decent armour crafts yet)
Jewel Craft: 21/30 (tough to raise, I can never get any good materials for it)
Melee Craft: 22/30 (I got the amp quest after the split)
Range Craft: 21/21
Foraging: 26/30 (maybe 35, depends on my choice of skills)

2) How did you guys start your crafting stuff? The points get drained CONSIDERABLY with all you have to buy... Getting the jewel/melee/shield crafting plans cost 75, then I upped my melee to level 2 for another 25, then I have the level 1 HP option (140), amp plan (170), light pants plan (200), then some of my skills were unfoolishly used on some +Focus stat stuff, because I used some of it on Harvesting as well, and now I don't have decent for THAT either.

3) Anyone want to help get me materials? It's annoying to ask for this, but my Harvesting is way too slow (no accelerated prospection yet... Aargh.) to do anything like this yet, and I can't dig up but H30 and G20. I guess that'll have to do, but contact me in-game if you're willing to help. Remember I'm still on the island, so... (My character's Kilyana)

4) Any more tips for leveling? I've seen a level 51 melee character (she's the one who killed the Ocyx, Arken, and the Kirosta for me and my group yesterday... Thanks.) but I'm not that ready to grind melee all day.

I'm pretty set up for anything, I have all my Ranger gear, my Fire and Wrath sword, Icy Touch, all that. (Oh, and is Acid and Ice 5 considered level FORTY, or level FORTY-ONE?)

Welcome to Atys, hacnshot :)

1) Your levels are plenty to allow you to travel to the mainland - I'd suggest that you might like to make the move with a few Matis friends as a group.

2) Focus on a single craft discipline at first - armour, melee, range or jewel crafting. Eventually, when the skill tree branches out more and more, you will have more flexibility to learn other crafts and learn their plans.

3) Learning to dig is pretty much essential for any crafter. Not absolutely, but you'll need to have excellent support from your friends to make inroads on crafting without digging yourself. Personally, digging is the Xtreme pursuit that yields the most fun :)

4) I'm no leveller, sorry.

I should also update my level, up to 34 melee. Man cratchas are good for exp.

And it's an interesting idea. I can't tell whether I want to specialize in armour craft or weapon craft. I want guns when I start, and I just killed a dominant cray solo, so I have 5 shells for a pretty dang decent gun right off the bat, I'll just ahve to save up a ton of points for gun crafting 1-4 and then the rifle pattern. Then ammo... Bah.

Patience young Padawan ;)

You´ll see It´ll all come in due time.

Leveling is mist fun in a team. If you Solo you´ll have to find the "right" Mob to do it. Cratchas won´t always be "the" Mob for you. And finding "the one" is half the Fun :D

Welcome to Atys

Yep, Kipees work much bette, almost twice the exp, only half more time. And the major problem is I'm not the greatest team player, because I have this way I fight solo.

Ryzom is designed around teamwork. This is a Massively Multiplayer game, after all :) In the early days of Tears my guild discussed crafting and decided who would pursue each discipline. I've known one or two players that tried to follow the path of independence and craft all of their own items. That's a very, very difficult road and it is impossible, without use of DP, to keep your crafting skills up to speed with your other skills, forage in particular. Using kit that is a little less than you are capable of wielding is certainly tolerable, but gradually the gap widens, inevitably, and the principle becomes absurd.

the fastest way to progress in harvesting... and crafting, is to become the lowly apprentice of a master. ( the "patience, young padawan" quip is entirely appropriate )
If you learn the care planning actions; ground stability and resource preservation, you can help an advanced digger in their work. from this you will gain much experience, and knowledge of resource spots, and your master - providing they are fair minded - should give you a portion of the haul. This will give you plenty of crafting mats, at a higher quality than you could achieve on your own.

just remember Ryzom is huge, and you cannot become a master of everything instantly
;)

Praise Jena :)

*buys another Divine Kiss from the greedy Karavan and feels stupidly enlightened*

*runs off to be dismembered yet again*

Oh, to say I don't know the last statement would be stupid. And apprenticeship is not lowly in any way, it just shows that you are not as great as that person. To be a master in SOMETHING? I have never, in all the days I have played a game, EVER maxed out a level. I doubt this will be any different, honestly, but I'll give it my best try. (my best could either be a level 83 on Diablo 2, or a level 22 on Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, because I think I killed basically everything there WAS to kill... Couldn't figure out if there were enemy respawns or not.) I bet it'll take at least 3-4 months to max out a single specification on a big tree, probably melee first.

You'd be surprised, I don't have any careplans because I didn't really understand what they did until a bit ago, but I need to level up a bit before I can get a single one. A good question now would be, what kind of experience would I expect from: (say the materials are the same level as both of our best harvesting, and with prospection and harvesting solo would net us both 1k points from it)

Me CP'ing while he harvests
Him CP'ing while I harvest
Me doing it solo (1000)

Plus I don't really know any Matis... Too rare. I see a LOT more Zorai than Matis on the island.

yay more zorai :-)

an earlier comment about coming over in a group is a nice idea.. you'd be all set up to start a guild of your own then and not get dragged around by us old ones.. unless you want to be dragged around of course, hmm anyways

with you careplanning a master forager you get i think 1533xp, and also bear in mind the mat extraction rate will be massively higher than you can get on your own so it will boost your crafting as well.
