Has character creation changed?

I see references in various posts and websites of these "action packs" one can choose from at character creation. Specifically, one could choose 3 different action packs to customize their character before ever entering the world.

Am I missing something? I don't see these options when I create a character. I've basically got a slider where I can choose to specialize (if that's what you want to call it) in any of the 4 skill groups. That's it.

So, I ask you: has this been simplified or something? Or am I just missing something obvious during character creation? TIA, and excuse me if this is a FAQ.

Yes it changed when the NPE went live ... now you get automatic "basic" skills, and then you can specialize in one, so that nobody starts off a little hindered... but don't worry, you can't make a "bad choice", you'll always be able to get to what you're aiming for :) .

Simplified or dumbed down ? I feel there are less choices, but at the same time there was some poor choices in the old packs. I took these screenies because I have to update my guide somehow around these new specs. I hope this helps you see the changes better.

Novice Fighter Specialization
Novice Magician Specialization
Novice Forager Specialization
Novice Crafter Specialization

So this is normal, then? I just got the game and was wondering what was going on, having heard how you had three skill packs to fill when you made a character and instead only seeing a slider with predetermined skills.
