Hello...I'm a n00b

I got bored of all the popular MMOs, and after sitting around watching t.v. for awhile, I decided to look around for something new. I came across this game and the reviews are mostly pretty darn good. I am very eager to try this so called "stanza" system.
So anyways...I am installing the game now so I have no idea what I am going to be doing but decided to stop in and say hi, since this game claims a very good player base enviroment.
I don't know race, or faction, or even server but once I get on, I hope to make friends soon. I would like to find a family guild to call home and enjoy my stay here. Hope to see alot of you in game.

Welcome.
The servers are based on language.
Arispotle = English
Aniro = French
Leanon = German
So you'll most likely be on Arispotle.
As for guild, take a look at the
List of Guilds.

Welcome to our Giant Root Ball!
Once you get the game all loaded and patched and ...
You're going to start out on a training island, where I'd recommend you stay just until you get a handle on the game controls and can kill a suckling Yubo, then head on over to the mainland, you'll find a lot more homins there.
As for creating your character, race makes no real difference to what you do or how you play your game. When you create your character, I recommend you get a magic, crafting, and harvest starter pack, and skip the fight pack. You can always fight, and can buy a dagger after just a couple of digs of harvesting, so there's really no need for the fight pack. If you don't get the others, they'll cost you 50 skill points each to get the starter after you get in game.
Most of all, Enjoy!

Tks for the heads up. I just got to patching and realized that I am on just one server so I can see all you guys. I checked out the guilds list before but wanted to wait until I found a server, but I guess that is not an issue. I rarely actually do research on a game, because it ruins the dynamic atmosphere if I am prepared, so I just mess around and go with it. Luckily, it will be good in this game since there are no classes. So now all I have to do is figure out a good assasin build and I am in business. I get 7 days to figure out if I like this game, but from the reviews I read, that shouldn't be a problem.

Don't judge the game by the starter island, general consensus is they inhale the great foul wind beyond the ability to learn the ropes with creatures you can actually survive fighting with.
An Assassin, huh? Could be tricky. PvP is MOSTLY consensual in this game, out side of a few special areas (Mostly high level areas, like Prime Roots).

well...assasin in a PvE sense if you get my drift. High melee/ranged damage, but little defense.
I just messed around a bit and it is pretty fun. I didn't take the fighter package, but now I have no weapon and it is taking a little while to get my crafting skill up. My magic skill is going through the roof, killing stuff just so I can get crafting up, in order to make something to work on melee....personally, I think it would have been easier to just get the melee but oh well.

You can start melee straight away by hitting stuff with your bare hands. Alternatively, sell the mats you got from killing stuff with magic and use some of the dapper to buy a weapon from the merchants. Then start stabbing a few suckling yubo.
I'd suggest porting to the mainland before your trial runs out, it will give you a better idea of what the game is like. More to see, more people to talk to.
Finaly, welcome to Atys, hope your stay is long and happy.

Welcome to Atys.
Hop to the Mainland ASAP.
Ranged fighting is a bit tricky in the beginning. Upside is, you can move while fighting, downside is you´ll need lots of Ammo ´cause those first few lvls don´t do that much damage to kill a Mob that would give you full XP. Later it´ll be better though.
If you´ve got questions, once you´re on the Mainland ask in Region Chat, people will surely help you.

So I can just head over to mainland, before really getting the hang of the noob island? I am already chain killing stuff with magic. I wanted to buy a dagger but it is just so much money, I wanted to just make one myself.
Did the race I choose, effect which faction I go. It seems, that the races are inheriently pro a certain faction.

Not realy. You´re neutral from the start.
You may chosse wich Faction you will be following in the Future.
Through Missions and Rites you´ll be able to gather Fame with one of the Factions and then you´ll belong to that Faction you choose.
Simple as that.
Not all Fyros and Zorai are Kami-worshipers and not all Matis and Tryker are technofetishists
Choose your own path.
You should leave the Noobi-Isle as soon as you´re fammiliar with the UI and get the hang of the System. On the Mainland there are more then enough people to answer all your questions
