Newbie saying Hi :)

Hi guys!
Just patching for my free trial and browsing around the boards. I played SoR back either right at the end of the beta or right at release (don't remember), but got discouraged by the crashing problems I had and quit.
Also I was enjoying crafting quite a bit.. I gathered all the materials for some spiffy pants, took me ages, and then when I combined them and put them on...
They looked like bicycle shorts. Tight bicycle shorts, with holes up the sides. -_-
Then I crashed.
It was too much. A fashion crisis and then the computer shut down. I quit.
Hoping I can get back into it again. Any tips on female clothing to avoid because I'll be incredibly annoyed that it doesn't bear any actual resemblance to the description?
(I seem to recall also having a "tunic" that was more of a leather brassiere.)

Oh man, now I'm going to spend my 7-day trial planning what to make.
Kidding.. sort of. Hehe. Great link, thanks!
Hmm I can't seem to find the bicycle pants. One can only hope they saw the light and changed the graphic!

Welcome to Atys, Sapling.
For bycicle pants, you might want to try the tryker pants... they might be what you are looking for!

I'm having a hard time leveling melee because I feel bad killing the things... how can I go seek out and slaugher en masse cute little things that come up and stare at me curiously? Why don't they just hand me a club and spawn a few baby seals?
So now I'm trying to just kill predators. Unfortunately, they appear to be predators for a reason, mostly involving long sharp claws and pointy teeth.
But hey, if I ever figure out how to get a heal or self-rez spell, I'll shortly be the most powerful mage on the island.
Edited to ask a question:
Can someone explain stanzas to me, or point me to a good link? The Ryzom manual is MIA (404), and I can't get the search button to work, so I'm a bit at a loss. Are they combinations of individual skills?
And another question:
Is there any limit to how many skill levels you can get? For example if I get to 20 in Fighting, and then get to 30 in ranged, does that make it harder to get to 30 in melee fighting, or does it not have an effect? And is there a cap?

I think...yes...I think I love you.
The 'only killing predator'-bit will get easier, I promise. Just stick to that path even if yubos still insist on peeing on you ('s really just their way of showing affection. Honest.

Ahh the Puny Ragus - raptor of my newbie world.
I am having fun but getting a bit lonely. Have only seen 4 other people in the past 3-4 hours, and 2 of them were AFK.
I think this would be a bit less difficult if I were in a group. (It seems to be pure luck if I can kill a ragus or not - sometimes I dodge all their hits, others they're only at half health when they kill me.)
However my skills are still rather piddly. 11 Combat/Harvesting, 5 Magic, 4 Crafting. So I'm not sure I dare head for the mainland yet. Especially since I suspect Puny Ragus will turn into Well-Fleshed, Incredibly Intimidating Ragus.
PS - I fear my boots are permanently stained yellow from all the yubo love.
Edited to note:
I just realized I could dual wield my sword in my main hand and my dagger in the other. Suddenly I've turned into a Ginzo-wielding Ragus sushi chef. Scared the heck out of myself the first time I did my extra damage attack and my character yelled and flipped!
Well after 3 hours of trying to find Buo Fiber I broke down and started killing Yubos for their potential as Clothing. They make such sad little sounds when they die. And it's pretty depressing how they keep running up to you peering around innocently as you whack their brother over the head.
- I really wanted to try crafting, but I think I just killed any RP I had, 'cause I just feel like a big jerk. And yes I know they're just little pixel critters, but they're freaking cute. The rats in EQ had it coming, these guys are like.. yeah the baby seals analogy is popping up again.
Why oh why can't some predatory creature drop it's pelt...
*decides to go to sleep and mourn the yubos*

Stanza's ALWAYS need to be tweaked for max effectiveness...
The
link to the manual worked for me...
As far as cross training skills... it helps because when you level a new branch of the same skill tree, you still have the credits from your higher tree to use on lower skills. You can use the accuracy of the higher level to hit more often etc etc...
The level cap is 250.
One thing about dual wielding a sword/dagger or dagger/dagger is that bonuses only apply to the right hand. The left does default damage for the dagger there only.

And level cap being 250 does not mean you can only have 250 levels total, it means every split in the tree can be levelled to 250. For example:
(Skill name|level at which the tree splits)
Fight 20
Melee 50
1 Hand 100
1 Hand Slashing 150
1 Hand Sword 200/250
Once you have that, you could grab a 1H axe, and start at 150 (axe is slashing as well) to get 250 in that as well. Then you could grab a 1H Mace and start at 100 or a 2H Sword to start at 50 or even a ranged weapon to start at 20. Basically, you can get as many lvls as you like. However, that doesn't mean you will. The game has run for over a year now and I have yet to see someone get everything to 250.
