i read an interesting article a few days ago, MMORPG players have increased from 6 million to 12 million in the last two years, and increasing at a very steep rate, predictions were 20-25 million in another 2 years.
I agree the community has grown in Ryzom over time, we seem to get burst of players every now and again, proof that advertising does work. Although still small atm. However, you`ll prolly find that the place is even more lonely, cause players are spread out over the world of Atys more, previously people would only inhabit the level 50 and 100 zones from when you were plaing, now they are dispersed everywhere.
Being a large world no doubt you will go a couple hours without seeing anyone occassionly, but imo thats a positive in many respects. Although a few homins would argue with me here, but an active friendly guild is the most important part of the game, trips, hunts, rezzes, crafting, source healing, chat (all rhetorical). And dont join the first guild that offers, take a couple weeks hunting with people, dont be afraid to say hi ow are you to a stranger.
And if you don`t find what you are looking for in the guilds you meet, start your own
