My computer died in a quite spectacular fasion. Guess taking the side panels off wasn't _quite_ as good as an additional fan like it needed...
So, until my new machine arrives I wont be about much. I hope to get it in a week or two max though.

Let's stab at the monkeys of misfortune with nasty, forked, and rusty bits of old metal!

ouch
brings back fond memories of me buying a new graphics card to play Ryzom, and blowing it up in less than a week. Learnt my lesson of never trying to flash the bios and overclock without first trying to understand at least a little what i am doing

Sorry to hear about the blow up.
Unfortunatly often taking off the covers can increase the temperature rather than decrease it as might first appear. PCs are often designed to generate a good flow of air through the fans, trying to extract more air than comes in, which increases the velocity, and cooling effect. Removing the covers can disrupt or break this flow and have the opposite effect than intended.
Not to mention the extra dust etc
Hope you get your new PC soon *hugs*

HAHAHA when i started this sub, my machine could just barely play Ryzom - i was buying new computer parts at the time and they arrived seperatly.. of course my Graphics Card came first and my motherboard last.. so i just HAD to try..
installed my new card, played ryzom smoothly, heard an interesting hiss, then a BOOM as batteries from within my computer suddenly thunked against fans/the chasis/the motherboard

fortunatly my card was fine and my new board came in just a few days later.
O.. but what will i do without my partner-in-crime?! Z hurry up and get those parts! i'll be waiting for ya!

Hmm... took out my power supply, cleaned it, swore at it a bit while sacrificing a live chicken. Computer seems to work now.
oh well, I needed a new one anyhow
Not sure how reliable it is, so may or may not be about depending
EDIT: LOL! As I post that it died again. *mutters darkly*
