Environment Question

Hi Folks! :)

I´ve got a small question for you, I´d like to have answered out of pure curiosity.

Here on Leanon some Animals seem to have retreated from their former hunting grounds and prowling areas. For example, there were a lot of Ocyx in former times in Thesos, almost up to the lakes shore. Now they seem have retreated back into the far desert and seem to be less in number.
Or in Dyron, there always was a large colony of them on the large dune west of Dyron lake. They´re gone. There still is a small pack of them running around a little further into the desert but nowhere as many as some time ago.

Timari and other herbivores have increased in number at the same time.

I´m wondering now, if that is the case on your server too, or if we just hunted them near "extinction" as it was announced to be possible by Nevrax.
Or if it is just a "patch-change" for whatever reason Nevrax may do this.

In a small way I witnessed this by experiment a few days ago.
With lots of patience and energy I hunted down every single Ragus ans Gingo around the Green Seed Camp at the Matis Arena time and time again.
Bodocs kept spawning all around, and within a few hours the area was almost packed with mooing, shuffling longhorns. And for a seemingly long time no Gingo and Ragus spawned... So THAT does function it seems.
No predators the herbivore herds get bigger until a ceratin point is reached it seems.
Predators and they´re kept in check.
I very much like that, but Im still unsure of the above mentioned circumstance.

Care to help?

Same is true on Arispotle around Dyron. There used to be a large number of Ocyx near the totem that's behind the Trainers' building. I think that's the same area you're referring to. They're gone now. There's some Varynx a little further out but the Ocyx have definitely gone.

dont think they were hunted, as much as 'harvested'
some days you had to struggle to find a spot along the lake, there were so many parties pulling ocyx off the hill..

Yep, you could put your team by the lake side, get your tank to pull an Ocyx down to them. If you hit trouble, someone dived in the water to rez the team.

Hmmmm maybe that's why they were moved....... :D

think of it as 'civilising' Atys..
as the homin peoples grow stronger, they force the predators further from their settlements.. the Kami must really hate that..
remember back before patch 1, when we used to hunt Ocyx in Knoll of Dissent, near the Matissian border guard camp :)
Im not sure, but I dont think there are any Ocyx left in orange <150 zones anymore ?

Nope there aren´t.
It seems this developmant has taken place in quite a similar fashion on Arispotle too. :D

But the significant question remains. Were they moved by patch, or by the A.I. as a reaction on the continous hunting/harvesting.

I´d hoped that if it´d been different it would have been a clue as to how that worked. Patch or A.I.

I would realy like to know.

Dang! That was one of my old character's hunting grounds; we hunted ocyx and varinx like they were going out of style *hehehe* Guess I'll be putting some of that spare dapper grinding out her crafting for a while ;)

Once I've refamiliarized myself with the interface and all, that is ;)
