So now that i am level 10 in harvesting. it is much harder to harvester now. is this intended? i am harvesting the same nodes on noob island as i was before. i would think i should be getting better yields with less problems as i get more skill off the same node. now i get less quality materials and thats if i dont die. the mechanics of this bother me greatly.

Welcome to Ryzom Satnar.
Would you mind tell us how your harvesting action is set up? (left click and choose edit the action you use)
You may also want to take a look at Doubletaps excellent guide to harvesting

Harvesting has some sort of a grace period. The first 10 levels the sources you dig will be extremely stable. Once you hit lvl 10 though, they become the way they will be for the rest of your harvesting career: instable and fragile. If you can, try to make your action a bit more gentle (by using one or more gentle bricks in your extraction) or learn the different Careplans. I suggest you read Doubletap's guide to see what those are all about, cause he explains it way better than I could

Yup harvesting generally does improve all the way through. The exception is when you hit level 10. From level 1 to 10 you are given a sort of immunity, so that new players can't blow themselves up on their first few harvest nodes and put them off. Once you hit level 10 however, the danger and risk of failure is turned on, and you have to adapt.
Overall I like this system, think of it as the danger is always there, its just turned off for very new players
Oh and welcome to Atys! *huggles*

Sources need love and kindness
You´ve got to buy the appropriate Care-Stanzas at the Harvesting Teacher. Then you can harvest a bit easier.

little tip: find "cancel current action" hotkey (press K and check under "Action Keys" subsection, should be first there).
pressing it when source is about to go boom, can save you life.
also you may want to press that hotkey when you see that you dont have enough time to get next mat (2.0-2.9 means you still only get only 2 mats, so digging when you have no possible way to reach 3.0 for example, can be dangerous
pst, you can hit prospect when you source time is still counting down (when you have enough focus that is)
later... much later, careplans will be useful.. very useful
.
atm your prospected source life is too short to have meningful effect from self careplanning.

wouldnt listen too much about the careplan advice to be honest. i recently started a new character, and got my first careplans after lv50
was more like lv80 as at 50 you get the eco system spec's but thats another story...
more important is to use gentle speed and gentle extraction, and as blaah mentioned stop your actions if its about to explode either by ctrl s or sitting down. things seem bad after lv10, but when you reach lv20 it will start getting easier again, honest!

I cannot remember whether it's making level 10 or using a higher level action stanza the changes your status. Newer players (on starter island) get modes (mode 22 IIRC) that are sort of like "training wheels" to help you learn the basics.
Try and get used to using several stanza's (leaning toward GENTLE until you know what your doing) on a node to get it's full potential. Use your highest stanza to keep fast mode (the rate at which your QL & # increases, this rate changes at 50% of max level of stanza used) as long as possible to get highest numbers.
