How long, or to what skill levels should new players stay in the starting area?

Hello and welcome!

There's no concrete rule. The most popular suggestion is 20 in one or more branches. Others say just come over when you understand the interface. But the islands can be lonely and confusing places, if you get bored or frustrated come to the mainland immediately and get help and meet people! Even at lvl 1 there are the mobs and resources necessary to level around the capital cities.

It would be a very bad idea for someone using their trial period to decide if they want to stay in the game based on the training island alone- make sure to have ample time on the mainland as that is where the real game is.

Personaly id say go as high as you can manage, its much easyer on the island as there is less deadly agro and there are plenty of things to hunt, it can be a little hard on the island, but as stated, it can get boring as it is very quiet

Well, there's actually more aggro on the Zoraï island than there is in Cities of Intuition...

The Matis island has about the same, maybe less than Majestic Garden...

Fyros island has more, though it may depend on what part of Imperial Dunes you compare it to...

Tryker island and Liberty Lake are pretty much equal...

Might be inaccurate as I'm going by memory.
