Neutrality

Post by final60 »

Why would you prefer to not be aligned to either faction specifically? I've thought of some possible reason's. I find myself thinking that you can't gain much from it, and I really don't think you gain anything that you can't get from being a member of either faction. Perhaps I'm wrong though.
Perhaps the story behind Kami vs Kara doesn't interest you, or do you not like the fighting between the factions?

Do you think you are adding another dimension to the saga by being Neutral, and do other's think that the aspect of Neutrality is only hindering the progress of the story line?

I'm not neutral..But I think neutrals get the best out of OPs because they can call there "friends" to help instead of just there faction as it seems to be now...

Tho on that same note to argue against myself :P AP has some Kara guilds who have agreed to help us defend ...

But overall I think Neutrals have a right to stay Neutral Ryzom has lost some of the freedom it used to have ,so take advantage of whats still here.

In the end tho...If neutrals went kami it would even the game back out I think.

For me it's all about being free. Free to chose my friends not based on faction. Free to ignore Jena/Ma-Duks orders to burn the infidels etc.

Plus there's a fat paycheque in mercenary work ;)

Personnally i was karavan before and for the first 2 minutes of EP2, untill i realised holding this faith meant i had to throw away all judgement of the Kami believers, and just kill them. Since then i`ve been neutral, looking for answers, looking for hope, trading to all, listening to the stories of the Kami and Karavan ways, battling with each on the battlefront. Even though Jena is dead and we worship a past life "god", i recently decided to go back to my old ways following the way of Jena, as it isthe path of my guild. But still listen to the tales of Ma-Duk, for he/she holds as many secrets about Atys that i desire to learn. I see no real reason to devoutly follow one path, many see a big pick or a pair of caster pants as a blessing, i do not.

I'd say that your faction does not determine the friends you choose at all. You involve yourself as much or as little as you like with the faction your in.

Do you need to be a Neutral to do mercenary work for either faction? From my experience I wouldn't say so at all.

Perhaps looking deaper into the lore behind Jena and Ma-duk one might not take such an order from their faction leader to mean so much.

Don't take this post as a personal attack, i'm just challenging your points.

Each of my characters has a different reason for being neutral, except the one that's Kamist. But Jelathnia is my most well-rounded character, so I'll explain her viewpoint on the subject.

Without going into too much biographical detail, various events have led Jel to believe the cults do not have the best interests of hominity in mind (to put it mildly). The Kamis, which she used to follow until the temple war, are corrupt and hypocritical. The Karavan are religious and controlling zealots. And we can't be sure of the true nature, intentions, or motives of either. We only have what they tell us (including the mixed propaganda and history they feed homins through the temples), and what we can observe. And what Jel has observed leads her to neutrality.

Also, among her first priorities is fighting the kitins. Since the end of the Kitin Wars in the old lands, the cults have pretty much ignored the kitin threat (if I'm wrong about this, please correct me). Their little war has distracted homins from the real threat; though the agreement among some guilds, and the section of the new treaty, to put aside such differences when an external threat arises is encouraging. Still, the factions are a dangerously divisive force between homins, and that only leads to a generally weakened hominity.

And now that she has a child, Jel's greatest desire is a safer world for her son to grow up in. The factions' goal of converting, or alternatively destroying each other cannot truly create such a world. Then there's what happened to Viccia Chialdo, which made a great impression on her for obvious reasons.

As i see it and from the faction backgrounds Atys is finite, whether destruction is from goo consuming the planet, kitins overwhelming all or dragon awakening.
This puts in my mind, kind of prompted by tales of future worlds too, that atys is a dock about to be set ablaze and there are just 2 boats to escape on, so neutrality has never been an option once i'd realised the choice. Aside from the fact that its the powers that rez you too, if they didn't rez conscientious neutrals, i doubt there would be very many considering how dangerous atys is.

[OOC] Currently neutral=neutered...

Folks are forced to work fame to have a reasonable amount of TP's. That being said, it's how the Lore was always written and the Dev's have scrambled to sate that class that doesn't want to choose a side. Because of the late arrival of fame and faction, Trytonists and neutrals have not really had a fair shake. Lore has changed along the way and we are waiting for more to tell us what is best for us all.

Changing/Limited backstory have created a mess... Reading the early posts by DCC do not match what we see and we are marking time IG. The posts by DCC drew me into this game during the beta's... We still don't have intelligent plants, Kamibast (not Kamiblast as I see everywhere as an intoxicant) or seeds as currency. Nexrax finances have derailed a great dream of a game into something that would sell... yet we still have a small playerbase and zero US shelfspace. It's hard to quit a game with so many good folks... even when you think it has imploded on itself.[/OOC]

DW, I see its not an attack ;)

The issue is certain groups would consider (more of?) an enemy if we are (OOC) affiliated with either faction. We dont follow either religion, and for RP reasons we dont wanna go with a faction "for the TPs" or whatever.

I disagree. Neutrals have a fairly liveable selection of teleports.
