Another WoW player taking a look

I wandered across this game last night while I waited for WoW to come back up.
To be brief, I'm 45. Love gaming. Love the concept of MMO's. I've played WoW, Lineage 2, FF and EQ2. To be honest, I'm bored with them all. I'm bored with all the foul language in general chat and the ying and yang of 12 yr olds.
This community seems to be more mature, based on what I've read thus far. Is it?
The game looks like it might be the mental stimulation I've been looking for since it's not quest oriented or the grind/fetch/grind of the games I mentioned above.
Any input would be appreciated

In general we definately have a lower amount of the foolishment than you left... but we have our moments too
Look around and you'll find that a classless game is both good and bad... best to have a plan as early as you can. There is a gamestyle here to suit any player, find yours and settle in for the ride.
I am sure the glee club will tell ya more...

Just keep reading in the General and Saga forums for good examples of both!

Glee Club?? There's a Glee Club?? Nobody told me!
Seriously, this is the first online game I ever plunked down my hard-earned money for. The rest just didn't catch my interest. I'm a 50-something Systems Engineer with 30+years trying to beat computers into submission. I like this game, its anything you want to make of it. For me its mental diversion.

Yes, and deep down DT desperately wants to join in and have fun too
But then he'd have to at least use a smiley instead of a grumpy
*hugs DT*
Geldain, there's still an awful lot of stuff to grind if you want to make levels. There are lots and lots of levels. A lot of work is required if you decide you'd like to be able to make Medium Quality armour, say, rather than just Basic, but then you'd expect that, wouldn't you? Maybe what's a little different in Ryzom is that you might find there are more people happy to help you achieve a goal and make it less grind and more ... glee
.
I'm sure you don't expect to be spoon fed; certainly don't expect too much from the NPCs - some have a lot to say, most don't, and they invariably have only one script. Recommend you take your time, enjoy the view, talk to lots of people and investigate everything that catches your eye.
Feel welcome to /tell jamela if you have any questions. Or gossip.

Not only community is mature but imho the game itself addresses this segment of the entertainment market opposite to the regular game makers that try to melt in the pot entertainment for 13 year old whose attention cannot be naturally focused on one thing more than 30 minutes (just joking no offence, but short attention span is natural in kids), fun for violent teenagers, and the complexity that attracts people over 30 years.
Ryzom in short is a game of patience and long run plans, of complexity, and with an open story. It's not a huge world but it has depth. Maybe a good measure for this depth is that after so long time after release there is not yet everything said and done.
But this also implies it's a game with embedded filters. Certain type of players will leave it, get bored fast, get the impression there is nothing to do anymore, etc. I think the game is a bit early from this point of view. It's target customer mass was not really prepared for this type of complex entertainment.
But as time goes by ,) this kind of fun slowly builds a path to its main consummers, which is the mature public.
You could anytime download the trial and feel free to contact any of us in game

Welcome Geldain
I agree with Jamela, this game will give you months of grinding if you wish to become a high level harvester/crafter
But that should not put anyone off who has got the patience. Indeed the master crafters are highly valued.
Besides it's a revarding skill if you find you wish to solo, or just haven't got time to team (say you are partly busy with something else than the game).
Most of the homins you meet on Atys are polite, either giving you help if you need to - or just aknowledging your presence. Myself, I'm 38 years old, and have been around since dec 2004. I haven't done the trial and error you did going through a lot of MMO's. Started researching, and found SoR to be the most likely candidate for the experience I was seeking
And I'm still here... what can I say...

Hey !
It's hard for me to stay IC when I am chuckling on this end... Everytime I try one of them smiley things a window pops up and says "you don't not have enough humor points to use this function". Grumpy's work everytime
