A fame question from a Veteran Noob...

Hi everyone
Since I haven't played since mid 2005, I find myself in a low-fame situation for both civilisation and 'cult'. A couple of people mentioned how I could start to fix this, but I wanted to ask for a little more detail regarding fame.
Firstly, I understand that I need to 'go neutral' for civilisation and cult, to earn fame in the respective areas. What I'm wondering, is which fame I should really be earning after that? I'm guessing I need an amount of Kami fame to buy the tickets - do I also need to declare myself as Kami, or will earning a set amount of Kami fame fix this, without declaring anything?
I'm also wondering the same for civilisation - at the moment, I basically just want my TP access back. If I declare Zorai, what does that actually help/harm? The first instinct was that I should obviously be Zorai, but I'm having a hard job pinpointing the differences between Civ and Cult fame and the effects they apply.
Since I need to learn a bit more about FvF, and probably read some Lore again too, I don't really want to declare anything until I understand the consequences

Note that my main concern for now is having my original TPs back again (all Kami TPs on all maps) - I haven't really made a decision on faction as yet, and would like to remain as neutral as is possible for the time being.
Thanks guys

You need to declair yourself as a kami supporter to access the root porters as i understand
Declaring as a zori will allow you to get up to 100% zorai faction (cheeper prices and more quests (eventualy)) but will make your tryker action max out at 0% and matis faction max at 25%, Thus preventing you from getting encyclopedia parts in those areas and making the shop prices horrible
I think thats the main things, the system is still new to me as well
and sorry about the spelling, hehe

Declaring zorai will make no difference to tp access as I understand it.
Undetermined faction = no tp access
Neutral faction = some tp access from both factions, but no PR or lvl250 areas
faction (req. +30 fame) = faction tps
faction with +33 fame = lvl250 faction tps
faction with +60 fame = all faction tps including PR

OK, thanks for the advice guys
It seems then, my current mission is:
Declare neutral Civ, and stay there
Declare neutral Cult, then go Kami to get all of my TPs back
I'm thinking neutral Civ because I'd like the ability to do Rites, although when I'll get around to it I'm not sure

I guess the shop prices thing isn't too crucial, unless something that can only be bought from vendors has been added since I left!
I was thinking originally to leave my Cult as neutral, but I like the idea of still having PR TPs available - I probably only have 1 or 2, but I like wandering the roots, even if I might be nuked in the process
Is it possible to play around with your declarations, or are you stuck once you've declared? I don't really have an RP stance to be honest, nor a real affinity towards a faction - I am simply a Zorai, and previously went along with the 'obvious' (read lazy

) option of being Kami. Since my time in game may be a little limited, I'm really not sure how Cult fame will affect me.
Again, thanks for the replies guys

If you have certain fame-values you would like to keep, and that would be reduced by declaring yourself civ-neutral, i would highly recommend to stay undecided. this will make you keep your civ-related fame and have no influence on becoming kami and have access to porter ticket. only two possible negative things may come of this, which are: you cannot enter a guild with a civilisation-alignment (which you can neither when you're neutral) and you can not gain / have insight into your tribe-fame.

As I understand it, a Guild with declared CIV alignment can recruit players with the same declared CIV alignment or players with Neutral CIV alignment. Wouldn't that also mean that a player with Neutral CIV alignment could join the CIV-declared guild?

IIRC, neutrals cannot join a CIV guild, only those that have chose nothing.

i'm sure you have typo somewhere there, but to be perfectly clear, neutrals (civ or cult or both) CAN join ANY guild.

I don't think that's right, DT. PF is a Matisian citizen, but has many neutrals in it's ranks including one high officer whose fame screen I'm real familiar with (me). My wife recently re-subbed and her toon was still "undeclared". When I went to re-invite her into the guild, I could not until she selected neutral. Then, I could invite her and she was able to join.
I believe neutral toons can join any guild. An aligned toon can only join a guild that is aligned the same way. i.e. If you are a Matisian citizen, you cannot join a neutral guild or a guild that's aligned to another race.

You can gain and keep tribal fame while undetermined. However, your tribal fame table will be hidden from you each time you log out. Declaring a civilization and/or a cult will cause a variety of tribal fame caps to be applied to your tribal fame scores. So if one has a high personal fame with a tribe, it could be lost. A handful of tribal fame scores will drop to -50. However, declaring a civ or cult allegiance will not cause any tribe to KoS you, that wouldn't have done so already - unless you further aggravate them ever so slightly.
