New guy on the block

Hello all!
I've decided to try out Ryzom and see if it truly is the game I have been looking for. I've been gaming for about 13 years or so. I've played the standard list of MMOs; NWN (via AOL), UO, AO, EQ, Shadowbane, Neocron, SWG, WoW, CoH/CoV, and now DDO and Ryzom. I have to admit while DDO looks really nice, it is really restrictive (abd thus not very realistic in a characters abilities).
I think Ryzom will give me the flexibilty that the launch version of SWG had and still sate the medieval fantasy hunger I have in games. Not sure what my characters will be, but I will update when I do. I would love to find a group of people to game with on a consistent basis. See ya inside!

Welcome to Atys, and enjoy your stay.
I hope that it is what you are looking for. (Although I think the perfect game doesnt exist)

Jup, there´l never be "the perfect Game" for everybody looks for something different than all others.
But SoR is a very good Game, with its own strenghts and weaknesses.
Some like it, some don´t. Strange thing is, those who don´t like it and rant about it in the Forums either stay or return later on....
Makes you think doesn´t it?
Anyway, welcome to our giant treehouse and enjoy your trip.

So I have my character. Her name is Asada and I went with a Matis Female with Magic/Harvest/Craft packs and then immediately picked up Fight. I'm currently still on newbie isle. I decided that my goals are the following:
Before I leave I want to be lvl 20 in all four packs AND be able to take on 2 kipee at a time (I killed my first last night !!!). I also thought about being able to make at least one of each type of equipable item, but we'll see.
It seemed a logical choice to me, so I'm guessing the following character focus is common:
Main: Fight (heavy armor, shield, and one hand weapon)
Second: Harvest
Third: Magic (focusing on debuffs and healing)
Fourth: Craft (just for the heck of it...)
Does anyone see anything wrong or have helpful suggestions?
I am currently F23, H14, M18, C13

Yeah I've noticed that (people returning with great frequency). I spent a few hours just reading the forums before I decided on trying the game. The concept of the game design is extremely close to the game I am designing. Dungeon Siege and UO are the only games that stick out to me before Ryzom that you have to use the specific skills to get better at it. Although it seems Ryzom is more of a hybrid of "use it" and "point-buy". Well look for me: Asada . I'll be an up and coming newbie with lots of questions. I'm sure I'll be looking for a guild pretty early too. Any suggestions?

This thread is your friend:
List of Guilds
Keep in mind whether you'll be roleplaying and what faction you'd like to join (neutral, Karavan, Kami...or Trytonist I suppose, but as there are currently no Trytonist guilds you'd probably just join a neutral guild or form your own).

Yes. There's no big hurry. Meet as many people as you can and then travel to the other lands to meet even more before you decide where to lay your allegiance and which guild to apply to join.
Welcome Asada
"Treehouse", I love it
I knew Atys was all Matis really.

quick point on fight skills. 1h is really nice to look at and use, but a bit rubbish compared to 2h. If you dont mind doing a lot less dmg then go for it, i did
