Has anyone ever got that power(?) called shielding?
It is described as "Protecting your target"
Has anyone been able to use it succesfully? It is available in the melee trees and for a melee i cant see how you would successfully use it without removing yourself from a fight.
any experience with this one?

I honestly haven't tried it in awhile... it was bugged to where you took double damage or something IIRC. Took it off all my hands and will check into it again now that you reminded me

Hello Alibooma
In my opinion it works as the description says. It just is a bit complicated to use. To activate it, you have to target the homin you like to protect, and then use the Shielding power. Then you take part of the damage the homin receives, that you protect. During the time that Shielding is active, you can continue your attack. So I can still be in close combat while shielding a teammate.
Cheers
Trini

Here is how it USED to work, I have not done another test since the bug and they make alot of stealth changes as we all know.

If I recall, you could also self target (F10) and use the skill and the 'shielded' part of the damage would just go to oblivion, thus acting as a damage reducer for yourself. Although I am not sure if that is intended or a bug.
I wonder if this skill acts much like the melee protect, where if one person uses it, it is down for the group. It seems like it would be a good way to spread a bit of the damage around if you could synchronize a team of melees you could definitely be effective with it.

It is for one player and has a cooldown period... would be nice to have mages shield the melee if it's working again. I submitted a ticket long ago trying to get this action to default to "self" when used so you don't have to retarget the mob to use it. Now hitting F-10 to self target is a bit cumbersome during a fight...

I thought you had to be within 10m or something from your shielding target too.

Only works if close, very nice with melee vs big hit mobs esp when an add arrives, either sheild main tank so he needs less healing because healer has aggro or use it on the healer as you pull off the mob off the healer. Not a skill for lazy meleers, though had it on a main tank assist macro for a while, saved the tank healing, which was handy in team without a healer.

I've used it some recently, more as a melee protecting a caster in a case of too many mob to keep taunted. It works fine to me.. does exactly what it says on the tin. Takes some of the damage onto the person using it that would have been inflicted on the person it is being used on. The amount is dependant on the level of the shielding (for max transferred) and the type of shield (if any) carried by the user.
It does have a run-down timer, but it is a lot quicker than other stanzas such as melee protect.

It absorbs some of the physical damage that the person you use it on receives, and deals it to you instead. Theoretically very usefull if you're in heavy armor with shield and protecting a light-armored caster. But it only works for 15 seconds and at the maximum level let's you take 75% of the damage up to max of 375. Most normal purple mobs already do over 1000 damage.
If it could absorb 75% up to a max of about 1000, or if it didn't have a cooldown and you could keep it on a partymember permanently, I could see a lot of use for the skill. As it is now, the hassle of targetting your partymember mostly isn't worth the perhaps 25% of the damage you absorb for them.

Last I checked, that doesn't work. If you'd normally get:
- Lacerating Yubo hits you for 1000 damage
Then using shielding on yourself would instead get you:
- Lacerating Yubo hits you for 700(1000) damage
- Lacerating Yubo hits you for 300 damage
Absorbing some of the damage to you and dealing it to you instead

Only helpful if the original 1000 damage pushed your armor over it's maximum absorption, and the new 700 and 300 don't.
