Yup that's me. Never before attempted online gaming, and by the time I'd finnished patching and character design etc it was gone midnight, so I didn't do much except talk to a couple of advisors who all said I didn't have enough skill points to do that (anything at all) or enough money to buy that (anything else). Come to think of it, I couldn't find where on the screen showed my finances either! I may have just beren too tired to look properly.
Anyway, any advice on how to get going in the game would be appreciated. Should I just jump on the first available karavan? Yes, I will read the forum threads on the subject - of which I'm sure there are many - while I wait for replies to this, so no flamimng please, I ain't no n00b.

What you need is the Basic Box of Tips 'n Tricks. And maybe a quick read of the manual
.
Tip 1:
Anyway, your dappers (cash, money, shineys, greens, credits, call em what you like, in Ryzom they're dappers) are shown in your inventory. Pressing 'I' will get it. Also every other junk you collected will show up here.
Tip 2:
Getting dappers is quite easy, you can kill something, then double click on the corpse and loot away. Sell whatever you found. The missions give some dappers aswell, although not to much. Last you can dig for materials, and ofcourse sell that too.
If you feel like it you can make stuff out of the material before selling.
Tip 3:
Pay attention to the target gauge (T to get it) colour AND star number indicate strenght. A green, 1 star Yubo (otherwise known as a Suckling Yubo is the weakest in the game).
Tip 4:
In the beginning, grabbing a 2 handed weapon is the easiest way to start training fight.
Tip 5:
Ask for tips.
Tip 6:
See tip 5.
(I'm out of tips for now)

Thanks. Just been home for lunch, and some nice philanthropist gave me some free jewellery and free advice. The game mechanics are really tricky, but I shall persevere - if I can master X2 - The Threat, I can do this!
Gonna kill some o them pig things I reckon. Do I get money for them? Is there a local butcher?

Welcome to Ryzom! *huggles*
As for the "pig things" I assume you mean Yubos. If you kill one, double click its corpse and you can loot materials for crafting or for sale on the market, just give it to a merchant

How do you craft things? I found some "raw materials" in my starter pack and I had a "crafting tool" in it also. How do I get them to do stuff?

You must buy "Craft-Plans" from a Trainer. Or, if you used the Crafting starter Pack in the Beginning, then you´ve allready got one, for boots. Just gather the needed materials and right click on the craft Icon in your hands bar.
Then select the crafting plan you want and put the required materials into the appropriate slots. Ok and there you go.
Hope that helps a bit. I´m not that much of a crafter myself
You´ll get more XP the more you craft and you gain 10 EP for each level gained. With EP you can learn/buy new plans at the trainer.
You can always look into some of the great tutorials that have been written in the Forums, on Pages or in Videos. I´ve collected some on my Page

Welcome to Atys, Zarozina!
Not much to add to Acridiel, as it says it all
A MMORPG can be quite strange if you play it the first time. But if you ask around a bit how things work, most of the time people are friendly enough to help.
Or send people a /tell to ask something. I think nobody in this thread would mind being asked something. (Although Acriciel is on another server, so that wont work
)

While you patching take the time to browse the SoR website, the forums as well as hop to the guild websites and get familiar with terms etc... There is alot of info out there to help you, the rest you'll get IG from players.
Hit the mainland when you have the basics down and give any homin a shout... you'll find we were all new once and helping another new person gains us another much needed homin in our efforts to remove the kitin threat from our lands.

Hi Zarozina --
I am in the Arispotle server. My main char Amphiaraus is a Matis and is on the mainland. I also have 4 fairly advanced alt chars, one on each of the beginner islands. Let me know if you are in the Arispotle server, if so I will help you any way I can.
I intend to keep one char each on the four beginner Islands for some time to come, I get a lot of enjoyment from helping new players.
Also what is/are the name of your Ryzom char(s) and their location(s)?
Hint - to get XPs in a hurry make a Tryker Island char, they seem to get more XPs per animal killed than any of the other 3 Ryzom races.
Thanks,
Amphiaraus
Lost Guild of Atys
Yrkanis City
My alts: Morbius (Fyros Island), Altaira (Tryker Island), Otho (Zorai Island), Boadicea (Matis Island).
PS - If you are just starting out on one of the islands, avoid the Yubos they may look harmless but they are instant death. Instead try fighting the giant crabs called Kipees, the more the merrier, its great fun (just kidding!!!).
