Afflictions

from the Q+A, but wasn't answered :/

"erm maybe all known by some but how do afflictions work?

Is the lvl of the spell relevant to the link or resist or is it just the skill level? is a lvl 50 stun just as effective as a 250 stun when cast by a 250 character, or a 250 spell cast from an enchantment of one with no skill?

What impact does the power % from an amp do to an affliction?"

bit of background currently have 84 OA using madness solo on lvl 117 plants, (takes a while but fairly safe due to resists + MA), a lvl 15 madness connects and links seemingly as often as my lvl 80 version, the lvl 15 being far more economical with credit use tho, This luck or intended?

Seems to me that this controls your ability to "hit" or "link" from what I could tell. And is much more a factor when trying to hit a baddie well above your level. It seemed to me a jump from an 85% amp to a 100% was a major benefit in the ability to hit and link.

Of course, I did not do the statistics, just a feel for it.

Noin.

I never noticed the amp power helping my chances to hit.
Regularly using afflictions totally ampless they seem to hit just as well as through my 97% power amp.
I thought maybe power affected link duration, but haven't noticed it either way....

I found that if your affliction isn't "recommended" for the lvl of the creature (see the stanza descritption) it makes little difference which lower stanza you use to hit it.
For example if my Stun 9 says it's good for a creature of up to lvl 200, and the creature is lvl 230, I'll have similar success with Stun 1 as Stun 9.

Though if your stanza IS rated for the lvl of the creature, it will hit much better than the lower ones. I don't think success depends on your lvl at all, it's jsut that your chance to hit hits a minimum early on and doesn't get any worse as you use lower stanzas.

I wish we could get an official response on how it works, as this is all speculation and observation. Though I don't think the devs really know either....

What amps do is increasing the chance to hit on a higher level (not very much tho, but enough to be noticed) and reduce the sap link cost.
Example,
I cast a Madness spell. The initial cast costs me 100 health and 100 sap. Ok, now without amps I lose say around 100+ sap everytime the link holds and is renewed. With amps I only lose 30 to 40 sap or something. The difference is massive.
At lower levels (100 and below) this isn't very clear as the sap cost is nothing much and if you have another high level magic skill you probably won't even notice.

The second thing are resists, depends on the crittin you try to hit with what spell. The thing that goes for elemental goes for affliction aswell. Only affliction spells don't have multiple 'versions' suited for each land type. You might have a hard time hitting plants because they simply have a high resist again Madness.

from my experiance the power stat on the amp relates to the amount of sap i burn up holding a link

without amps i lose all my sap holding a link ... wiht 100%power amps i use up almost no sap
